The Sunday after Winchester, the Baltimore-Washington chapter of the American Truck Historical Society (Mike B, Billy and I are past presidents ) are having a chapter show just up the road from Stovebolt HQ if anyone is interested. I'll be there. Deets in the attachment. Should be a good time in a cool venue.

NOTE THE DATE CHANGE! Because of weather (Ian) moved to Oct 22.

Sounds like a hoot. I can't make the Tri-state show, but I am jonesing for a show, see some dear friends, and some wonderful acquaintances (you now who you are).

C'mon up, Carl. It will be a smallish show, but the hosting venue is a hoot. Maybe Sweet and Marlow will join us ...? Roache and Mike B will be there.

"If you are paying any attention to the weather, this weekend’s forecast isn’t pretty. It’s too early and things may change so stay tuned.

"Our Rain Date is October 22nd. I’ll try to make a decision as soon as possible later in the week. Assuming we are a go, the lot is available after 6:30PM Saturday night for pre-positioning and we will be on-site after 8AM on Sunday for set-up and registration.

"I have no idea how many to expect. We could use some help so come early if you can and help set up.

"Call me with any questions."

"We have several other events that our chapter [BW ATHS] is either hosting or a sponsoring club. Our show and meeting at Bowles Farms on October 2nd is always fun and a great place to bring the family. We will have a toy truck raffle, people’s choice award and door prizes. We’ve collected some door prizes, but if you have anything laying around that you could contribute, it would be appreciated. No requirement."

Had a nice visit with John V this afternoon (stopped by his crib to give him his old plates from the Cornbolt ... ). Anyway, he's looking to get a big pickup truck turn out. That's us, gang! Who's in??

Anyway, I rolled Miss Margaret out of the rack a couple of hours ago to start chopping wood for the cook stove. Then she'll need to get the hog slaughtered and butchered, the chickens plucked and cooked, the corn meal ground, the cow milked, etc, so we can have a proper country mid-morning breakfast tomorrow. She has rather a full day ahead of her.

Don't worry, I'll be safely at work by the time she reads this ...

I have been back and forth all week on making the show but am about 95% sure I will not make it. Too much to do around the house. I have a deck and porch that has to be finished before cold weather and, thanks to the west wind and the neighbors 5 acres full of rotten *** nasty tulip polar trees(only good for woodworking), I have a few hours of leave cleanup and last grass cutting to take care of. That’s a weekend right there. Might as well break my record of the year of least attended trucks shows. Yep, that would be 1 for 2022.
I am looking forward to the barn party invite at Mark’s Saturday evening᠁..I might have a thirst after all that leaf blowing.

Well crap. I guess I'll just have to spend the day annoying my bride of 36 years tomorrow instead.
I was hoping that ole Smiley coulda at least showed up with some mustard for our sammidge, but it sounds like he has a busy day ahead of him around the house.

Well, for what its worth, I guess it will just be John V, Gary and I. Three trucks...

Charlie won't be making it, either. Tried to bring him home with me after work today and he said "No." I think the starter is fried. Oh well, if no ODSS members are attending, then I guess I will take the Cornbolt tipper, then. It started just fine.

Pat (my boss) is threatening to stop by with one of our work trucks ('99 Cornbolt dump truck) that is fresh out of the shop. Maybe I'll go grab "my" work truck. It's 15 years older than the Cornbolt. It's not pretty, or shiny. It has hydraulic fluid streaks from the wet kit and grime all over the frame. It's a "rode hard, put away wet" working truck. But hey, it's a ..... PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEterbilt. I would bring Mikey's truck, but the dump body is stuck in the up position so it can't leave the job site at the moment .... Great truck, Mike! NOT.

Made it to the show today with both Charlie and the Cornbolt Tipper

Sat in on the ATHS B-W Chapter meeting and some very gracious things were said about Stovebolt in general and our participation at Winchester in particular. Our effort with the Saturday evening trash detail has even been noticed by ATHS National. I made the point that it isn't "work" if you make it fun! There is a real valid reason why people want to jump in on our trash detail. Its the same reason why people like volunteering for whatever Scott Schifflet is leading ...

Anyway, *your* EXCELLENT work ensuring the Fairgrounds were spotless Sunday morning are neither unnoticed nor unappreciated at the very highest levels of the ATHS. Made me proud to know most of you.

ALSO ... not to be overlooked or unappreciated ... was that B-W Leadership is sensitive to the unfortunately reality that we tend to get lumped in with B-W when time comes to assign credit for things well done at Winchester and that they are making a determined effort to ensure credit goes where credit is due. I was very pleased and honored to stand in front of that group on all y'all's behalf and thank them very much for such a gracious attitude.

We have truly come a long way since that inauspicious morning a decade or so ago when we had to stand in front of the Tri-State Show leadership and take a well-deserved kick in the a$$ for our misdeeds...

Let's continue to be earnestly *wanted* as a group participant at our *favorite* show!

Footnote.... Most of you are probably wondering how, given Charlie's recent starter issues, Charlie managed to make it to the show after all....

Wellllllllllllllllllllllll .... it sortttaaa goes like this here ....

I talked Gary Mattingly into running me back over to the the farm (previously known as Stovebolt HQ) .... Henry J catches wind of what's afoot and generously offers a 3 lb hammer from the tool kit aboard MVFD Engine 23 (ret'd). Said hammer travels to the former Stovebolt HQ (ER) and gets judiciously, if not with extreme prejudice, applied to the aforementioned starter. Charlie suddenly decides to "play ball."

To wit I say to those who erroneously claim that "violence never solves anything" ..... Hogwash!

Also known as "Percussive Maintenance".

I believe that the correct spelling and pronunciation of the word is "hogwarsh" when used in the context of the aforementioned repair methodology.
Such methodology has been referred to as the Knauer Method = "The employment of swift and blinding violence."
Why, a friend called me earlier today to pick my brain on how to free a rusted-on rear brake drum.
He tried heat, Kroil, prybar, and a LFH to no avail. I suggested that he break out the BFH and increase the intensity of the blows on the outer edge of front of the drums, alternating from one side to the other until it teeter totters itself off of the hub of the axle.
He did it while on the phone, and bingo, off she came.

Charlie knows when to rock n roll

Especially when I hold the hammer in front of him (like I did when it was time to go home) and I ask, "Do I need to use this again???"



Negotiation is great. Negotiation from a position of overwhelmingly superior ability to inflict utter destruction is better...
