Does Chevrolet tie the serial number to the paint color? I've looked at that GM Heritage site and don't understand it now. Years ago I got a report for one of my 58 trucks and it had nothing about paint color.
Does anyone know anything about this?

But if you need one I can email one to you.
But up through 55.1 there was no tie of serial number to paint color. I don't think that came into practice till quite a bit later, like in the '70's. The Info Kits thru 55.1 just list the available colors. As and example I just browsed thru the '72 Vehicle Info Kit and it doesn't even have the color chart or names.

Are you in communication with that heritage center? It would be interesting what they would say about it.
Do you know what the white paint stick marks that are found on some trucks firewalls mean?
I need to look at my old 58 info kit, if I can find it.

Hopefully they’ll restore access to them.
As far as firewall markings some members have reported color name abbreviations on their trucks. Usually the initials of the color name.
I can email you a 55.2 kit if you’d like. PM me with your address.

Does anyone know anything about this? The paint codes were stamped (typically 3 numbers) on the GVW plate...nothing about paint or trim is found in the chassis/body serial number. Here's a sample of the paint codes... I had heard the marks were there to make the assembly line aware of an RPO that needed to be installed...something that wasn't standard issue. The other plate (the nice little spot welded stainless steel plate) is the serial number and yes I know never a paint code there.
