Attached is every serial number I can find on the engine.

I have a 1959 Chevy apache and I'm curious if the engine has been swapped out at some point in its life.

The serial number next to the distributor deck (its hard to see in the pic) is F425B. Which I believe tells me the motor has hydraulic lifters (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I am also unsure exactly what the numbers around and in the valve cover are supposed to indicate about my headers.

Are any of these numbers supposed to correspond with my VIN? If so, it makes me believe the motor may have been swapped at some point.

Sorry for 1000 questions at once, but I'm new to attempting to restore old classics. Thank you in advance for any answers and tips you have for me!

The D 24 9 block casting date on the first picture decodes to April 24, 1959, so there is a pretty good chance the engine is original to your '59 truck. There is no direct association between any of the markings on the engine and the serial number tag on the body.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.

Engine code F425B breaks down as follows,

F = Flint Engine Plant
4 = Month (April)
25 = Day
B = Passenger car 235 with Powerglide

Like Bill said, it looks like a 1959 block with a 'I 1 0' date code on the Head (Sept 1, 1960).

Note, Chevrolet stopped putting "serial numbers" on their engines at the end of the 1956 model year. So, you have casting numbers for the part number and date code as well as misc. numbers used by the foundry in the process of making the casting.

Also... the # on the intake manifold, 3754644, dates from '59-'62. It is the "low box" intake used for hood clearance on later models with oil bath air cleaners. So, that is correct for '59, also.

That VIN tag looks a little wonky. Where is it mounted? I'm pretty sure the one on my 58 Suburban is on the driver's door pillar. Chevy also started stamping the VIN on the frame during the Task Force years. Look at the drivers side top of the frame rail right near the steering box. Your VIN is stamped there. That is the authoritative source as far as I know.

Thanks

So if F425B correlates to a passenger car engine wouldn't that mean I don't have the original truck engine? Or did they use "passenger car" engines in the Apaches?

Correct, you do not have the original engine...

The "Serial Number" tag looks just fine no wonky at all. There is no VIN on a 55 to 59 Taskforce truck. And thank you Bill Hanlon. It seems places like Wikipedia has changed since about 10 years ago when they had the correct information. The VIN started in the 80's all say and is a 17 Character number, that follows an ISO standard. And his photo shows the number tag on the driver door hinge box pillar, 58 and 59 did that. 55 to 57 did it up higher near the windshield on the same A pillar.
If it is a truck engine it will have solid lifters and the powerglide car engine will have hydraulic tappets.

I have a question the last numerical part shows what number the truck is from the assembly plant, starting with 100001, (using 1957 salesman manual), is that all trucks from the model year or all of the taskforce series or what?
3B = 3200 series
59 = model year
K = Kansas City assembly plant
Unit number is the next group of numbers see above.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

Unit number is the next group of numbers see above.

The unit number is a consecutive number that includes ALL series of cars and trucks made at that plant.

If you look at the unit numbers on Goldfish's serial number plate you can see the they were pre stamped and then during assembly they stamped the Series, Year and Plant (stamping is not as uniform and straight). So Goldfish's truck is the 43,314th vehicle out of plant K in the 1959 model year.
