I have a 1950 3100 . It has the original speedometer with a new needle in it. The Odometer works OK, but the needle for the Speedo is stuck on 0. I have taken the unit out and removed the glass and chrome trim piece. When you spin the piece the speedo cable goes into the needle moves, but when you push in on that and spin it, the needle does not move?? It does push the needle and shaft out a little when you push on that speedo cable receiver. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this??

Did the speedometer work before installing the new needle? Why was the new needle installed.

Is the end of the cable square in cross section? Maybe it's rounded off and just spinning in the back of the gauge.

The original needle was deteriorated badly.

The end f the cable is spinning as the odometer is working.

It is possible that the cable is pushing on the brass piece on the back of the speedo. At first I thought the needle was rubbing on the glass face, but it does not turn even out of the case when pushed on the back of the shaft.

It did work when I first put it together and ran the truck for the first few times, but then it worked occasionally and then quit all together.

Jerry m Someone commented earlier their nut was too tight and it stopped the hand,might loosen it a little.

I ended up making a thin spacer to insert between the brass input for the speedometer and the threaded part of the back of the speedometer. So far so good. It was about .008" and I made it a u shape to slide in there so I did not have to disassemble.
