I have a NV3500 from an S10 connected to a SBC. The engine location wsa set per guidance from the engine mount supplier and the distributor to firewall clearance is good (close, but not too close).

The shift lever for the NV3500 is formed to angle the shift lever rearward. The combination of the location of the transmission and therefore shifter lever and the angle places the shift lever too close to the seat. the attached pictures show the transmission shifted into 4th gear (knob next ot the seat) and 3rd gear.

Does anyone have information regarding the potential to reform the angle of the shift lever (probably remove from transmission and use heat to change the bend), or would the preferred approach be to form a new shift lever extension that bends to relocate the knob position? In a previous project on a similar engine/transmission setup in a Jeep Wrangler I formed a new shift lever but I do not recall the transmission shift lever having the bend found in the S10 version of the transmission.

I would just remove it and bend it to wherever feels good.

Thanks, I need to read up on what is involved in removing the lever but that seems like a viable approach.

I removed and disasembled the shift tower (all appears to be in good condition) and heated/bent the lever. I think I can put this in the "done" column.
