old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2006 Posts: 48 | Hello, I'm a newbie here and I have just purchased a '47 GMC 3 ton. I would like to "backdate the grill to '41-'46. I am a WWII reenactor so the I need to date the vehicle a little better. What kind of work needs to be done to put the older grill on. If someone wants to email me seperately I have pics. The current grill is horizontal and I would like to put the verticals on.

The cabs are similar but different. I have a 1942 chevy 1.5 ton 4x4 military for sale. 316-737-2092 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 | '41 thru early '47, Chevrolets have the vertical bar lower grille. '41 thru early'47 GMC trucks, have the horizontal bar lower grille. I don't think this would be a difficult swap. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 | If your truck is a 47 AD you couldnt even get close to the look of a deco truck by changing the grill. The first thing would be the lack of head lite bucket on top of the fenders. Its all down hill after that. Making it look like the mil spec issue would be even harder since they dont share many front end parts other than the cab and doors. Looks to be cheaper and easier to just by the right yr truck. | | |
