Just thought I'd drop in and make my introductions.
I just picked up a 1940 1/2 ton pickup which was sitting in a field abandoned for a bunch of years. It's actually pretty solid still.
I volunteer / teach a automotive glass to a few high school kids from a small local school. This truck is going to be their project. Our plan is to get it running, driving, and stopping, and then fix the broken and missing parts but keep it as original as possible within reason.
Looking forward to learning from you all. I know nothing about these old Chevys, so I will be learning on the fly as well along side of the students.

Welcome to the "BOLT".. I glad to see that your sharing this project with your class, there is not enough emphasis of education for Trade Skills any more. The old truck will be a stone age lesson in basic mechanics for most of your students. Great project.

Welcome to the 'bolt! It's awesome you are teaching the next generation how to fix this truck. Their life skills will grow in many other areas after bringing it back to life. Ask away, we're here to help!

You (or your students) may want to start a Project Journal for the restoration. Hopefully, someone can get some good before, during and after images all along the way.
The Welcome area here is mostly for us to get a chance to know you and the school / kids (whatever you can share, of course). It's very tempting once a dialogue gets going, to drop questions in here. Best to post questions in the Shop Forums; that's where the "Collective" really shines.
You all may enjoy reading some of the Gallery stores so you can see what's possible!
Looking forward to hearing more!
Welcome. Enjoy.

Welcome to the ‘bolt! I love that your teaching the younger generation about these awesome machines. I agree that it would make a great “Project Journal”. You could keep a running journal that your students could follow as well as us fellow ‘bolters. Good Luck with your project and remember that you can ask any question as we are here to help!

About the door art, there is information on Spanky Hardy's 1948 Holmes Wrecker Gallery page that (at the time of his entry) has a link:
Brad Allen has an awesome collection of Chevrolet factory pictures that he has set up from film strips. Over 6,000 pictures This one is on AD Chevy trucks (1947-1955). Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment for you.
Wonder if he's still collecting.

This project is buzzing along in The Project Journals forum. If you hadn't gone to read the Journal (and see more pictures), you are really missing out. Already some cool history and serendipity abounds!
Great story already!
