It doesn't run, and I need to bring it home. I'm thinking of using my 39,000 lb rated military towbar hooked to the front bumper, by drilling 2 one inch holes and running the pins through. Any ideas? Your tow bar is probably stout enough. Provided your attachement is good, the remaining question is what are you towing it with?
My primary concern is does your tow vehicle have adequate brakes to top it?
If you are planning to tow with a 1/2-ton pickup you could easily get into trouble. If you have a dually pickup rated to pull 10,000 plus it still may be marginal when it comes to brakes.
I don't know the rules in Ohio. In some states the law says if the load weighs more than some fraction of the tow vehicle brakes are required on the load.

I told my buddy that it weighs 11,300lbs and he said he's towed more behind his f250 powerchoke. I'm thinking I may rent a uhaul to bring it back with. Anyone else do that?

Here is how I connected mine on my 1964 Chevy C60. I just use the tow bar to move my truck around the yard as opposed to over the road. However, I'd be a bit concerned if it were mounted to the bumper... Just offering my 2 cents worth. Best of luck getting your big rig home...and keep us posted on your progress | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | My 454 powered K3500 weighs about 5700, so maybe a Powerstroke F250 is in the same neighborhood? But it all comes down to how big are the brakes...

The bolts(4 or 6 of them) go through the frame. I am confidant that this will be of adiquate(sp?) strength. I just want to be sure the tow vehicle will stop the beast.( You don't have to go, but you HAVE to stop!)

I only did because I had no other option at the time. My pick up had no problem pulling it,though lane changes were a little tense. It even stopped reasonably well,if only because I was looking WAAAAAaaaayyyy ahead of the truck, preparing for every move far before its time was at hand. I began slowing for turns and stops a mile before I reached them. If I'd been cut off or someone had pulled out in fromt of me,it could've been ugly. If your boss will work something out with you,go with that. Speed | | |
