I went to look at a 47 truck yesterday and need some info please?
It had 47 type grille, chev bonnet badge, canadian compliance plate, maple leaf badge on side of bonnet and GVM of 16,000 pounds.
It had 20' tyres, dual rears, and very long chassis with 2 sets of rear springs each side.

Hy wombat46, It sounds like you have a Maple Leaf 2 ton, it should have a G.M.C. engine in it. Maple Leafs were made from the 1930s to 1950 by G.M. Canada, hope that helps a bit.

wombat46!

3b's right about the engine and the time frame they were built. My guess is your truck is a 2 1/2 ton as they didn't make 2 tons. My Chev 2 ton is rated around 14500lbs. (don't have access to it but that's what I remember) At 16000lbs makes sense to be a 2 1/2 ton.
This link may be helpful.
Let us know if you pick up that truck!
Cheers, George

Hi James!

First, I should have said 'Welcome to the Stovebolt Page'. You'll find this one of the greatest, if not the greatest site for information about that truck. The folks here are really great people and they range from around the world.

Your truck of interest sounds like it is a Canadian 'Maple Leaf'. That was the name given to the trucks that were 'heavier duty' than Chev's.

When/if you get that truck you may want to contact General Motors Canada-Vintage Dept. They can tell you when the truck was made and when it was shipped from the factory. Also, they can provide you with a specification booklet ($25 approx.)
The address is:

GM Canada-Vintage Dept.
1908 Colonel Sam Drive
Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
L1H 8P7

ph. (905)644-4060 (7:30 to 5:00pm Eastern Standard Time Monday to Fri. Fax (905) 644-5436

This is just assuming that it is a Canadian 'Maple Leaf' so time will tell. Hope you acquire it!
Best of luck.
George

Thanks George, you are right, this site is information central!
A little more research shows that more Canadian Chev trucks came to Australia because the import Tax was less then from the US.
Some one said that when some of these 2T trucks arrived here more leaves where added to the rear and the GVM increased?
Why are these trucks so addictive? Is it just me?

No, Wombat46, its just you!

Figger there's 10853 folks out there ahead of you with everything from a piddlin' interest to plain ol' droolin'-bark-at-the-moon reactions every time he or she sees an ol' Chevy or GMC grinnin' back.

Some say its the water. We know better!

Congratulations. Get that there truck home and keep the stories a comin'.

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!
