Hubby and I are getting ready to reassemble my truck, and I've read that one of the first things you need to do is install the wiring harness. He has a '68 Camaro from high school that he restored a few years ago (30+ years after purchasing it), but we're out on a limb here with my truck. He has knowledge as far as hook up and maintenance, but no idea what the best product is.

* I'm converting it to 12v for convenience as it will be my daily driver 8-9mo out of the year.

Majority rules: What company did you purchase your wiring from?

Individual groups as needed, or the complete 'harness' at once?

I have zero good wiring left at all - About how much am I going to spend for your average wiring? (I don't want Dollar Store quality, but I also can't afford to buy the top of the line, either)? I just need a ballpark figure to save towards because I've found everything from $89-$489.

I have the original heater, and I would like to possibly hook speakers or something up in it as I won't be driving it in the winter on the roads here. I hope to use the Bluetooth on my phone for music, and thought it would be possible to take a little speaker in the heater where it wouldn't be noticed. Has anyone done this in their truck, or have any advice? At the very least I'm putting the heater back in just to preserve the look of the original interior it came with. (I realize it's probably aftermarket, but it looks too cool not to put it back in. It's definitely old, I'm just not sure how old).

Thank you in advance!

Most if not all of the aftermarket wiring harnesses are labeled every few inches as to what they go to, so, the “Where does it go?” Is pretty easy to figure out. Speedway has a harness that is reasonably priced. I believe it is a 12 circuit setup, which should take care of all your needs. Just coil up the extras and tuck them up under the dash with zip ties. They will be there when you need them.

Hi Mom...if you're hoping to hide speakers (or a speaker) in the old heater, you'll need a bluetooth receiver/amplifier. This will pair with your phone (whatever type it is) and let you do this. I haven't bought one of these yet, but something like this might work for you and it does have volume control:
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/DFRobot/DFR0803?qs=DRkmTr78QATeH9Juc%2Fy45g%3D%3D I plan to get one of these if for no other reason than experimentation.

As for rewiring, I'm probably not the average bear but I'd be inclined to buy the wire, connections, etc and build the harness myself.

Justhorsen - Thank you! This sounds like it's right up my alley. Going to check it out now.

Jon - Thank you for the website! I'm definitely going to let our son's help with this part because one has a 1996 pickup that they've done this in, and the other has helped a couple of friends with older vehicles as well. Glad to know it is a possibility... Gotta have my music to cancel out all the road noise. LOL

You're welcome, Mom. I'm an old fellow and as such my understanding of bluetooth up to a few months ago was the wino in the village where I grew up. He had blue teeth, but nobody saw it as a positive thing. Anyhow, please look up in the radio section of this forum (up top there). You'll see I've started my newest project...an FM, MP3 and BlueTooth unit for the AD trucks...that will be affordable and will work. These things are made in China, but from a circuit standpoint some of them are very good. Soon...before autumn weather arrives I'll have something to offer. I've already learned my wife can call me on the phone and I can answer via BT and I can play an iPodcast file...or is that simply a podcast file? Anyhow as I learn, I'll post...
