I have a '47 GMC 228 in my 41 AK and it has started to "cough" when doing a smooth acceleration at between 1100 & 1500 rpm. Have check electrical, vacuum and other visible areas. Doesn't do it everytime does it about 50% of the time. Could a intake valve be sticking ?

Change out your condenser or get one of Jon G's 200,000 hr jobs.

It may or may not be the problem but it won't hurt. Condensers ar pure junk these days - even brand new.

I had a bad lobe on the camshaft for an exhaust valve. When the intake valve for that cylinder would start to open it would cough up the carburetor. Would not do it when the engine idled.

ronsway Might try a dose of marvel mystery oil in the fuel, check valve clearance, that condenser, look close at your valve action maybe spot a bad lobe, see if your push rods are rotating as it idles, plugs in good shape ?, carboned up on valve stem, accelerator pump may have a void before it shoots, exhaust system blocked ,maybe even a plug wire that's weak.

flatblu4748 You know I never hardly ever look at my plugs, use HEI on about 5 235 engines and for several years too. I look and they're rusty from not being even turned.

Looks like you may have solved the problem. How many miles on the other condenser?

Next step, get one of Jon G's Condensers.

Ya, they're all Chinese crap. My NGK condenser failed in 1500 miles.
