Victor, take care of the Mrs. There will be other events. This weekend sort of evolved from a Sunday afternoon last December at Mikes farm stripping an old rusty 3800 of any worthy parts. The thought was to do the same one weekend in the spring and well, here we are. Looks like rain for the next few hours but there is some wrenching going on inside and outside under an easy up.

A few shots from late today -- the trip over to the yard to salvage the last few things off the '49 1-ton -- like the splasher 235 engine, the transmission, the window trim (stainless), door hinges, radiator, driveshaft ...
And before any gets too bent, this truck's sheet metal was completely rusted. We saved what we could.
Lastly, we got in a group shot before the sun went down. More pics from Boteler and amtrak joe as they are able to post them.

What a great weekend. Thank you everyone for coming. This was something I was wanting to do. Things really came together when the Philly fellas rolled in with food, grills, tools, and assorted skills in making this thing roll on. Thanks out to Billy for the light that is still hanging in the barn. That thing was amazing to have. Amtrak Joe, Dj, Bill, Pop and Jim. Thank you again for the things you do to make these occasions special. Hardshell and his better half for their contribution to the Saturday evening meal. It was awesome. Thank You John for the encouragement and guidance to help make this work. Thank you, Mike.B for hanging out and getting trash loaded on Dempsey and sweeping the barn out. Chris Sweet for his continued support and the logistical acquiring of the essential office space. Stewart, good to see ya. Hope to see more of ya. Jim, special shout out to you for letting Kayla get the knowledge and experience with a clutch and wheeling your truck. She will likely never forget that and is already bragging to her friends about it. Another thank you for everybody wishing Carey a Happy Birthday and singing. John, awesome set up off the cuff. I threw that together with Kayla only 45 seconds before I caught ya, Thank you Buddy. There hopefully will be many more pictures and some new surprises from Amtrak Joe when he gets a chance in his busy schedule to produce the photos. If we do this again one day, I hope others will be able to come out and experience the camaraderie that makes this website great. Oh, It was awesome to see Peggy for a time on Friday evening. Continue to improve, we wanna see ya again. Please forgive me if I left anyone out, it goes without saying that this could not have happened without everyone of you. Thanks again everyone!!
Very well said Mike. Again, cant thank you, Carey, Kayla, Dr. Toddy, Mom and your Uncle for allowing us to spend the weekend at your beautiful farm. The whole weekend was a blast and it was great seeing everyone again and meeting a few new faces as well. Special shout out to DJ and Joe for keeping us well feed all weekend especially the midnight feasts. You guys killed it! Cant wait to see Joe's drone shots. Tons more I could highlight like, Jim and moonshine, a truck having the engine being extracated by a track hoe, Buddy time, Hambone exiting Saint Mary's County....but I will let others chime in. I hope we can get together again soon and more often for some more Stovebolt adventures and good times. oh and keep the light Mike. My donation to the barn! You may want to upgrade the extension cord. Hope all made it home safe and sound. Billy

Seriously, though. Mike, the first time I meet Doc, we just hit it off! Very easy to talk to! I have bragged of that day often! Then to reignite that distant friendship has to be my highlight!! What a man! Then there’s Kayla. It was a joy to be sitting in the right hand seat with her on the left, behind that big wheel! The honor was mine and I’m sure, I enjoyed it even more than her! “Great kid”! You two, should be proud! I also echo the thanks, to our personal chef, and his apprentice, that was provided to indulge us in some wonderful meals! I need to hire them at my next event. Mike, I really appreciated your hospitality, even if,᠁᠁we were sequestered to a barn, next to the hogs! Couldn’t ask for better accommodations! Also, a tour of the farm and some history behind it! To the rest of you, great to see everyone and to catch up on your life’s journeys! Stay safe, and can’t wait to see your ugly mugs again! Did I use enough exclamation marks? Jim

Marlow -- About that engine ... Um, we actually didn't extract an engine. We pretty much removed a truck from around an engine ...
All I know is that is one tough carburetor ... Between Jerry beating it with the digger bar, and me levering the whole weight of the truck against it with the excavator ... and the only damage it sustained were the two broken studs holding it to the manifold .... Once those broke, the whole truck lifted free. I thought of Carbking and was glad he was not there to see such ... horror.
Jim -- No. Your pictures show lewd and debauched behavior. And ... you are sitting next to a known culprit. He has led many of us far stray from the straight and narrow pathways of a virtuous life with his "prescriptions." Behind that innocent "who, ME???" expression (which fools NO ONE), lurks a truly ... truly, I say .... something ... oh, forget it. Fine, I'll post the pictures of you and The Doctor.

It was great to see everyone ! We enjoyed seeing the farm and hanging out with all of you. The sun was shining when we got home so we fired up the old truck and went riding for about an hour. Thanks for having us there Mike !
Finally home. Pretty tired but thankful for the weekend. Was a bit sad to leave the property with the last remaining piece of my stuff in somd ( except for what was left with sweet in the essential office).

I was thinking to myself on my way out of the county, but it was only a few years ago that I would not have been able to tell you the difference between a 6 cylinder engine and a V8. One chance meeting with John and a 6-pack later, I was in good hands. Yesterday I loaded the last of 3 trucks on my own trailer, tied it down and trailered 600 miles. Prior to that 6-pack I would not have the confidence and where-with-all (or interest) to attempt. While I am not allowing all you ODSS'ers to shove me off, I do need to acknowledge the support and friendship attained over the last 14 yrs. I fell into good hands, learned alot (it continues) and gained the friendship of an diverse, eclectic group of like minded stooges. Cheers to all that contributed and to SB for being the mechanism that facilitated. Now to decide which of 3 trucks goes to town with me today?? HB

Doug, Glad you got back safe! Even though your three trucks are back, your still missing a vehicle from your motor pool. A grocery getter that will truly stand out as you go through small town America. What could that be you ask? Something that looks good with the driver wearing a straw hat with a piece of straw hanging out of their mouth, an antique tractor! Can’t wait to see the pictures when it arrives to the Hambone estate! Jim

14 years ... ??? Wow. Seems longer. in a good way.
Hambone, you've not only lived the dream, you've reciprocated and enabled living the dreams for others.
You're a plank owner in a couple of important endeavours. Growing the ODSS dream ... a Choose & Cut christmas tree operation ... and blending the two ...There are a lot of milestones, of SB/ODSS and FF, that you helped place. A lot of photos in the album that you (and Sarah and Jack and Craig ...) are in. A lot of good times ... a few bad times ...
Thanks for sharing the path for awhile.
We all look forward to the next time you can be with us and we hope it's soon.

Great weekend. With all the crazy BS in the world today, its good to distance yourself to a little slice of heaven far from trouble. Spend it with old trucks, great pals, and Freyja. Thank you to the Roache family for opening your home to "a bunch of guys on the internet".
While the weekend was an overall success, my personal challenge to find Buddy's electrical short was not completed. I'll keep chipping away until its found!

I read John's post and just as I was finishing, some pollen blew off of the old Loblolly right in my eyes and made them water up. Huh. Hambone, you definitely have come a long way in a relatively short period of time. Two time truck restorer, 3 truck owner (and 60-66 aficionado!), a blacksmith, a timber framer, an ODSS stalwart, but most of all, a great friend to all. I know we will see you again but there is some sadness knowing there isn't any more 60-66 iron left of yours left in Saint Mary's County. Take care Brother Bone, hope to see you again soon. Billy

Sorry. didn't know you were looking for a short. Thought you were wanting to replace air cannisters and work on bed. I've got a probe that I could have brought over and help you find it in about 10-15 min. C'est la Vie.

Mike, "Flattery will get you everywhere!" It was a great weekend, and I even managed to stay over a couple of days extra for a special project that John and I have had in the works since before the Covid bug just about gave me a permanent vacation. That 235 spray oiler from the rust bucket truck will help one of our new forum members keep a family heirloom truck working for a living, if I can make arrangements for it to head several hundred miles west of where it is now- - - -siutting on my trailer in my front yard! I rolled in a couple of hours ago, after a 700-something mile trip home. It was a real treat to hang out with the ODSS crew again! Jerry

I cant quite remember having such a great time. Mike, thank you and the family for opening up the farm to all of us. Here is a link to some photos. I still need to figure out how to knock down the resolution of the movies off the drone for upload.
Outstanding Joe! I think they turned out awesome! I see some great poster potential! Thank you for doing all that. I wish I was still at Mikey’s,

There is one picture that shows someone in an orange shirt, behind the block building doing something suspicious. Anyone know who that is and what he was doing?

Just a quick update- - - - -the engine we scavanged from the rust bucket is headed for a new home. I just finished a phone call with a young man (23) in Oklahoma who has a 1951 big bolt that still works for a living- - - -his grandfather bough it in 1955 and they still haul grain every year with it. The original 235 developed a rod knock, and I'm about to begin a full overhaul on the engine from the junkyard dawg with a few improvements like replaceable rod bearings and a full circle rear oil seal so the old rig can keep doing what if does best. I had him in mind when we pulled that engine, as I thought it would be a bolt-in swap. By later this year, or maybe next spring, I'll be making a road trip to Oklahoma with a "new" 235 spray-oiler! There will be a few upgrades, like aluminum pistons and possibly a camshaft for a 261 engine, NASCAR connecting rod bolts, and maybe even full pressure oilng of the rod bearings with a late model 235 crankshaft and connecting rods. It's not terribly difficult to put a pressurized 235 rotating assembly into an early 235 block, with just a few minor modifications. There's quite a bit more effort involved in converting a 216 to full pressure oiling, since the block is 1/8" shorter and different connecting rods must be used. It will still look "original" from the outside. Jerry
