Where does the brake pedal return spring attach on a 1946 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup?

It looks like it could attach to the overly long pedal-to-master-cylinder-rod-bolt, but if this is the case, what about the other end? It seems that the clutch fork is in the way.

The replacement spring being sold for a 1946 Chevy 1/2 ton isn't very long, and has an attachment loop at each end of the spring, without any long-and-straight sections to the spring.

For a spring of only about 4 inches or so, I can't see how it attaches to the brake pedal, or the engine or frame.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does the piece on the other side of the pivot point have a hole like the ADs? Does it pull forward instead of backwards?

@46Sparky. Looking at the bare wire in your photo, it seems you have an appropriate handle!

That makes more sense. I thought it might be something like that, but I'm missing the Z-bracket and the straight spring-extension piece, and I don't see anything like either of those on-line for purchase. I'll see if I can make something similar.

Here is a pic of the extension rod used on the brake pedal spring. Also a pic of the spring. You could make the extension (I am not close to my truck or I would give you the measurements. You can buy one for $2.99 plus shipping. (the shipping will be way more than the part). Place an ad in the Parts wanted section. Someone may have a spare.
