I have a 1949 chevy 3600 that has the floating cab headliner. I ordered the carboard replacement from Classicparts.com. when i tried to install it, the floating bar seems to be in the wrong place. The front piece of cardboard is too long and the back piece too short. I checked the measurements at Classicparts.com and the pieces are as described. Is the floating bar supposed to be movable? It doesn't seem to move, but cant figure out why the pices don't fit. I double checked to make sure i wasn't trying to put the front piece in the back and back in the front but really no way to make that mistake. Thoughts?

Doesn't it slide forward and backward? Mine is 14 3/4" from the edge of the windshield trim to the front edge of the bar's bottom/rear groove. The front headliner piece goes in the top groove of the bar.

Thanks Otto. I tried sliding the center channel manually without luck and the "gently " tried a hammer which also was unsuccessful. Was going to add some penetrating oil to see if that helps, but didn't want to waste my time if it is not supposed to be movable. Thanks for replying. Steve

Was there no headliner in it when you got it?

In answer to your question, the headliner bow does move. It is sort of held in place by tension and by the cardboard headliner itself. Yours might have some surface rust holding it in place.

I just happened to be working on my headliner bows today and took this picture of the middle bow. This is the top side of it in the middle with the two crimps to hold it in place on the front headliner section. There are a couple more dimples near the ends for the same reason. The arrow is pointing to the rear.
