Hi all! Pulled my wheels and drums to rebuild the brakes and one of the drums seems to be past serviceable. Deeply grooved and cracking through the entire diameter. A new replacement seems to be out of the question, unless someone knows a part number somewhere… Otherwise, do any of you have a used drum in decent condition that I can buy? 10 LUG, 15” diameter, 4” shoe, just over 4.5” drum contact surface. Any help will be hugely appreciated!

Hy 58caddy, could you answer a couple of questions for us please, what type of wheels does your truck have, Budd wheels, Kelsey wheels or Motor wheels? Could you tell us the number of holes there are in the mounting surface of the brake drum please?
Well, thank you for the reminder, I'm sorry I forgot to post the other pics of the drum. Budd wheels, the dreaded Firestone RH-5s. I've actually just purchased the replacement single piece wheels. See below for the other pics of the drum.
Any drums that are an improvement over this damaged one will help keep this truck on the road.

What are you calling damage? If it is the heat checking that is a very common condition. Get some one to mike the brake drum. It can probably be cut because it doesn't appear to have been cut before. Up until 15 years ago I used to turn the 16.5x7 drums on my fleet. But then drums got so cheap that I quit doing it. But as expensive and as hard to get I may pull my brake drum lathe out of storage again. I had much better service out of turned drums than the few Chinese drums we bought last year. They turned out to be junk. I bought 4 pallets of made in Mexico drums last week. I am going to try them. If they turn out to be junk, I will be turning drums again.
Hy 58caddy, thank you for the pictures and telling us which wheels your truck uses. The original part number is 2392980, I found no cross to that number at the Napa website. I found a couple of possible replacement drums in my Raybestos catalogue, their p/n is 9578, ten holes, 11.25" bolt circle, 4.32" brake surface depth and a height of 8.81". As I don't know the height of the original drum I'm not sure if it would replace your drum or not. Have you had your drum measured, I believe that drum can legally be turned .090 oversize. Hope that helps.
What is the lug bolt circle diameter? If that's from a truck with 10 lugs on the rear hubs, and 5 on the front, I might have what you need. Hey Kenneth! The pics don’t show the damage very well, but there is a crack that goes from the edge of the braking surface and through to the exterior of the drum. Looks like the brakes were likely over adjusted and someone smacked the crap out of the drum with a sledge and cracked it.
How about the drums you just got from Mexico? Are those matches for what I’ve got?

Hy 58caddy, does your truck use the inner and outer nut system to retain the wheels on the rear? I've never seen ten bolt Budds with an 8.75" bolt circle, I believe 8.75" is the bolt circle for the six bolt Budds. If your truck is ten holes on an 8.75" bolt circle with a single nut retaining system, then I believe you have Kelsey wheels not Budds.
Hy 58caddy, if your truck has Kelsey wheels then your rear drum would be p/n 3996644, that part number crosses to TWD 2770 at Napa. Napa lists it as currently out of stock, whether or not any more will be available is a question for your local Napa store, hope that helps.
