Starting to get a little frustrated here! I had to switch trannys in my 66 Chev. Put in a three speed manual that came with the 230 motor I bought. Had to have driveshaft shortenend due to longer tailshaft...got it all back in, but can't get the shifter levers to go into a neutral position. I did have the sidecover off. Is it possible I didn't get something aligned properly when I put it back on?

Jack the rear up so the driveshaft will turn..Remove the shift rods and see if you can get neutral by manualy moving the side levers...Might have missed a shift hub while apart...remove cover..have the driveshaft so it will turn...Move each slider untill drive shaft turns. Now you have neutral....Shift the cover levers so they are both on the center detent .you now have neutral...Carefully install cover making sure each fork is in each hub correctly...Install two bolts hand tight..Shift levers to see if driveshaft locks up and frees up when each lever is in the center detent...you now have neutral...

Thanks for the help. I was trying all that form under the truck. Each time I would get the d.... gears in place, and reach for the side plate to reinstall, one of the gears would slide back.....ended up taking tranny back out. It was a five minute job then. Thanks again!!
