Been working on my 5500 trying to get everything working so that I can actually drive it and do some work, but the drum brakes just have refused to work for me thus far. I've been thinking about making an "upgrade" to disc brakes
what I really want to know is if 1. this is worth it and 2. is this possible without having to fabricate my own parts. I'm probably going to make a post showcasing the truck so far on what my family and I have done with it so far, but having to take a break to wait for money
and plan ahead for future projects with this truck

'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Grigg has spent a lot of time and effort writing a tutorial about converting to modern axles with disc brakes, which is probably the only safe, effective way to do it. Get ready to do somer CPR on your checkbook!

Not cheap but a lot better than a crash ! My 51 6400 will slide the tires on a hard stop,only ABS can do better !! | | |
