I have seen many forum posts and ebay posts that claim factory air was not offered in chevy pickups until 1965. I have a 1963-1966 shop manual on CD that is labeled as a liscenced reprint of the General Motors shop manuals. It clearly shows an under dash A/C unit for 1963, (which could be an add-on, but not likely) and the 1964 section of the manual clearly lists and shows the same components, both in-dash and under the hood as the 1965 and 1966 sections of the manual. It even states that the newly designed system came out in 1964. If this was dealer add-on air, there would have had to been a tremendous amount of firewall and dash work to do. If anyone REALLY knows, please enlighten me.
GM Air was a Dealer Installed Option for Chevy trucks starting in 1958, so probably remained like that until it became a Factory Installed RPO in '65 or whenever.
My 1964 accessories installation manual details how to install the A/C system in the C10 trucks. A/C may not have been available from the factory, but it seems it was available as a dealer installed option.
It was a factory in-dash option in 1964, I have two. Jim Carter's site mistakenly lists 65 as the first year. GM would not have put operating instructions in the 1964 owner's manual if it wasn't available yet.
Thanks 64fleetside. I was pretty sure this as the case. I can't imagine any dealer attempting to install this style of A/C into a non-air cab. Way too much cutting on the dash and fireall to make it feasible. The reason for my question is because I am rebuilding a 64 that had a cab that was rusty beyond repair. I found a new cab that had factory air and was told it was a 64. There was no ID tag since the roof had been crushed and the top torched off. There seemed to be no way to know for sure.

I don't know about 58 but for sure in 59.
Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.
As of 10-26-2022, A 55.2 Taskforce long bed now the work begins
The Accessories Installation Manual, provides play-by-play instructions for installation of the in-dash A/C system. Additionally, included in an NOS in-dash A/C system, are the excerpts from the Accessories Installation Manual, in the form of 8-1/2" x 11" tech sheets.
The in-dash A/C system installation instructions, are included in the 1964 Accessories Installation Manual, pages 96-134 and it flags 7.5 hours. These instructions also indicates templates & layout dimensions for the dash, firewall and radiator, to make way for the A/C system equipment. In most cases, the firewall and radiator support, is dimpled, as point-to-point or locations for the modifications. Although there is a fair amount of dash, firewall and radiator support modifications required, it was done at the factory & dealer level.
does anyone know if there is a dash a/c vent outlet available for a 64 c10 ? Im referring to the one that mounts over the radio and has the 2 round and 1 vertical outet thanks
Mikeg, is this the piece you are referring to? Listed for 65-66 but 64 would fit. May or may not have been an original option in 64. I did not research but have no reason to question the responses above.
