Got my 261 together & installed FINALLY! Engine has been ready to assemble but never made the time. Getting ready to retire at the end of the month, took some staycation days at the shop and got it done. Drove blue home last evening, 12 mile initial drive very nice!

Hank, our local NAPA will make up high pressure hoses for the local farmers and for any type of machine you run. Whatever size, length and fittings that you need.

Still a work in progress. O. E. canister lines had metal out past the exhaust downpipe then hose. Mulling over options such as: heat shield around the exhaust pipe, heat wrap around oil hoses, or ??

Why not apply the KISS principle? Install a couple of 6" long pipe nipples into the block to space the ends of the flex lines out past the hot exhaust pipe? That's what I'm planning to do when I get around to building my late model 261, which will be closer to 300 cubic inches at the end of the project. Put couplings onto the pipes to duplicate the 1/2" NPT female threads in the block. Use black pipe to avoid the danger of the zinc plating sloughing off a piece of galvanized. Jerry

Probable what I'll end up doing, needed to get something on it to get it running & out of the shop, would want them to fire me before I retire at the end of the month!

Pardon my ignorance, but why do people not use hard lines on their remote oil filters? We use them for vacuum lines and fuel lines pretty ubiquitously, is there a reason why it wouldn’t be advisable to just plumb 1/2 stainless tubing with AN fittings to the oil filter? Beautiful engine BTW ðŸ‘
Any time you connect something mounted on the engine and something mounted somewhere else, you need to use flexible lines because the engine is not stationary. That's why brake lines are hard (because they mount to the frame, which does not move), while the brake hoses are rubber (because the axle that the brakes are mounted to moves.) That's why the fuel line from the gas tank to the fuel pump is hard (because it's mounted to the frame which doesn't move), but the connections to the fuel pump are rubber (because it's mounted on the engine, which moves.)
If the filter canister is attached to the engine, hard lines are OK. Mount the filter onto the firewall or the inner fender, and flex lines are necessary. Most canister filters were dealer-installed options, so flex lines gave them a little bit of wiggle room about where to attach the canister- - - -ahead of the carburetor or behind it on the intake manifold, for instance. I used 5/16” tubing with standard inverted flare fittings. My canister is mounted solid to the intake manifold on the engine. No worry of burning lines from the exhaust.
