Hi all,
I have contacted a rubber extruder, and worked out a deal to run some windlace that is closer to original shape and size. It will be softer and actually contact the door, to help seal out wind noise. I will be taking orders if anyone wants to get in on this offer. I will not collect any money until I know there is enough interest. I need to get close to 75 orders to make it cost effective. At 75 orders, the price comes to $41.00. If we get 250 orders the price drops to $27.00. So pass the word and lets see how many want to get in. I will get a sample once the order is placed. I need to pay for tooling and first run before I get the sample. You can Pm me here or email me at [email protected] I would like to get the order in as soon as possible. The extruder can only do black, so it will not be the grey tan original color.
Thanks,
Ron

The orders never amounted to enough to proceed with the order. Only got about 15 signed up to order. needed at 50 to bring the price to a reasonable amount.

That’s too bad. I need to replace mine at some point but it’s original and seems to be sealing. Too bad some PO painted it when they painted the cab.

Maybe we can help spread the word in order to get the number you need.

I'll get back to you, hopefully by end of day.

MOTOXFAMILY,

Please add me to your order list.

Mine currently as hard and brittle as C-ration crackers.

Absolutely willing to pay the "75" order price (or thereabouts plus whatever shipping etc) and will watch for future development.

Thanks, Dan wave

I bought mine from STEELE RUBBER CO. It fit perfectly, and has held up for 26 years now.

As Peggy said, we're willing to help spread the word ... but ... We've (Peggy and I, a few others) been doing this web site for 26 years. We've seen a lot of efforts, good ideas, etc come and go ... Based on that experience, here's a couple of things I gently and respectfully offer up for whatever they may be worth to anyone:

1. Group buys at Stovebolt (whether it be t-shirts, plate toppers, specialty parts, tools, etc -- we've had quite a few over the years) *rarely* attract more than 20 participants. 75 is quite ambitious. Not saying impossible, though ... 250? To be very blunt -- that is not a realistically achievable goal. I don't think 75 is, either, but who knows? See next point.

2. I've bought *most* of my restoration parts (for 2 complete frame-off restos and two on-going drivers) from Jim Carter (Jim Carter Truck Parts) or the late Pete Kinney (American Classic -- which was bought out and no longer exists). Pete kept this site alive in the early days and Jim has always been a great supporter of the site -- giving 'Bolters great deals and offering great quality parts. I've never had an issue with Jim's parts, but if I did, I fully trust that he'd make it right.

Carter is selling his windlace for $36.00. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had quality issues with Jim's windlace. But if and when the time comes to replace mine, Jim would be my default source.

What I'm getting at is that you are asking us to spend more for parts from an unknown source -- do we know anything about their quality (do they manufacture here or in China/offshore)? Return policy/quality guarantee? I'd be concerned about Stovebolters getting ripped off or scammed ...

Not trying to quell any enthusiasm, just saying there's more to this we need to know ...

Hi John,
The last I knew, Jim Carter had the same windlace everyone else is selling and the problem is the bulb part of the seal does not sit against the door frame when it is installed. It was run through the wrong die and the bulb side sits flat instead of sitting at a lazy "C" shape (which obviously would push it toward the door frame). Months ago I posted images showing the OEM stuff and what you can buy today. There's a notable difference. What needs to happen is a new die needs to be made so that the rubber can be run correctly. If the bulb doesn't connect with the door when the windlace is installed, it never will and nothing will be sealed. If Jim has some new style, please let us know. I've spoken with some of the vendors and from what I've been told everything out there is being made by one outfit (they haven't told me who). There is some on eBay that looks like it might possibly work but I haven't been able to get the seller to reply to questions. This is it: https://tinyurl.com/y9ccbwht

And here is what everyone I've found is selling: https://tinyurl.com/yckttjme

It sort of looks like it might be ok but I've installed it and others here have also and no matter what we've done there is between 1/16" and 1/8" gap between the bulb and the door.
