If this isn’t the right forum feel free to move it. As part of my work on my ‘59 this winter I thought I’d give the Cerakote process a try on the exhaust manifolds. Here’s a picture of the job the local shop did on them. It ran me $250. It’ll be a month or so before I get a chance to put some heat into them. I’m interested in how this coating will hold up long term, we’ll see.

Looks Good. I had the lit'l fast ride's headers done last summer. They were coated inside and out. Based on my research, it's a dang near permanent coating.
Fibonachu - the coating isn’t think at all, I took a look at the threads and I didn’t notice any perceptible build up, I don’t anticipate having to chase the threads.
Dougs - I’m surmising this, Cerakote is a commercial coating process, only applied thru franchise holders. It’s more known in the firearms sector I think. They have high temperature rated coatings, the colors are limited compared to non high temp selections.
Do a search on the cerakote name and you can find their site and search providers by ZIP code or city/town. My closest one was about an hour away.

I've had a few rifles Ceracoated, and the finish is tough as woodpecker lips and absolutely weatherproof. No idea of its long term heat resistance, as I don't shoot enough to get a barrel hot enough to approximate exhaust gas! Jerry

Cerakote offers DIY Kits, that include an HVLP spray gun. Here's the blurb from the website. "Starter Kits - Designed for the beginner wanting to try Cerakote, these kits provide you with the professional coating and essential tools needed to get you started." Fairly expensive, but not too bad since it includes a spray gun. It might be too fussy for the average guy. Some products are air dry single component, and others are catalyzed products that need to cure in an oven. Probably best to have a trained applicator do the job.

Don't waste your time on the air dry type- - - -it's fragile and pretty much worthless on anything that lives in extreme conditions. Jerry
