For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 204 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 204 | I put a multi meter on my truck battery and on my honda, both show 13. I had to jump the truck last week but it started right up and I used the truck (shut off and on) the rest of the day. Today with the honda running and charging for a half hour all I get is sight turn on starter, and nothing when not charging. The battery is three years old . 1955.1 3600. I'm going back outside to clean the cables and grounds but they look clean already. Thanks for the help. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | 3 years seems to be the norm these days. If the cleaning and tightening doesn’t fix the issue then have the battery tested.

What is the battery terminal voltage DURING CRANKING or at least attempting to crank? If it goes extremely low, the battery is bad. If there's little or no drop in terminal voltage, there's a dirty connection somewhere- - - -fix it. Try turning the headlights on, then attempting to start the engine. If the headlights go out, there's a dirty connection at one of the battery posts that won't flow starter current. Even a failing battery will show normal voltage with no load on it. Jerry

It was a loose negative connection, it looked tightened all the way but it was still loose. I made a shim out of a piece of soup can, tightened it up and it started. Is this an acceptable fix or should i replace the connector. I will do more test later when i get a helper | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,833 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,833 | Change the battery cable, or at least file the slot in the terminal where it can get a tight pinch on the battery post. A band-aid fix like a shim simply adds another layer of material to corrode. Jerry
