I have found a front axel from a 1950 one ton dual wheel truck that is in very good shape. Will this fit in my 1952 one ton single wheel pickup.

Yes, it should. The '46-'52 1-tons all used the same front axle I-beam and steering knuckles. Doesn't matter if the rear is single or dually. I'm assuming Chevy.

Wait, don't the hubs stick way out on dually truck so you can use same wheels as on back?? You would need the wheels for it too. The center hub and wheel will stick out and may not look right for single set-up. You could get 2 more dual wheels and put on backwards for rear, make it look "fake" dually! HA!
You may be able to remove the extension on the hub and put studs back in mount holes to take out the spacer, thus run your stock wheels. OR, maybe your old hubs will switch over to the dually spindles. Those parts may be the same, I think.

If this new axle does in fact have the dually adapters on the hubs please send me an email when you list them as for sale.

That's right, I forgot about the different front hubs for the dually trucks. I was thinking of just the I-beams and spindles. The single-rear-wheel front hubs should swap over with no problem, though, since the spindles are the same.

Are you sure the spindles are the same? The extended hub on the dually 1-ton is actually the outer hub, which houses the outer bearing, and the bolts that hold on the extended hub are a smaller diameter pattern than your wheels.

I'll throw in a disclaimer here and say that I have no first-hand experience with AD 1-ton front spindles/hubs, but that won't stop me. grin

From what I can find in the truck specs (in this case, from '49, which should be the same thru '52) and the Chevy master parts catalogs, only one spindle is listed for all 1-tons (excl. Dubl-Duti), with no distinction between single or dual rear wheels. In fact, the '46-'50 3/4, 1, and 1.5-ton, and '51-'52 3/4 and 1-ton, all use the same spindle (or knuckle).

As for 1-ton front hubs, I see no mention of hub extensions or adapters for the dually trucks. Instead, there are two completely different hubs. One for '47-'59 3/4 and 1-ton with single rear wheels, and one for '47-'59 1-ton with dual rear wheels (these also fit certain '60-'66 trucks). I haven't been able to find any illustrations for these specific hubs. Also, there is only one set of wheel bearings listed for 1-ton trucks (for '46-'52), so both hubs must use the same bearings.

For the 1-ton dually, 18" wheels were used instead of the standard 17", but they shared the same 8 on 6.5" bolt circle.

Of course, all this is moot if ttodd is only interested in the I-beam alone. :p

Yes I was thinking about useing the complete axel short the hub extensions. The spindles on the axel I'm useing now are worn beyond use. The hub entensions would probly be for sale. This is going on a doodlebug winch truck project.

Thanks Tony

If they go up for sale list them in the swap meet and send me an email. Unless I find another solution I'll want a shot at them.
