After learning about the different versions of fresh air heaters, im curious. Since the 47 thru 52 version of the heater doesn't have the doors that open and close, it is basically letting in fresh air all of the time. Does that make it hard to get the cab warm in very cold weather?

There was a lot of good and interesting info in those links, and I read all of it. Unfortunately, nothing in any of them answered my original question.

I've got a fresh-air heater in my 51. Air coming in through the side cowl vent has to go across the heater core. So to answer your question, no it does not. I would say that the cold weather in your part of the country, is gonna be a shade more harsh than the cold weather in my part of the country. But even on real cold days here, my heater will flat run you out. And it doesn't take very long to do it either.

I have a cable operated valve on my heater core, and even completely closing the valve, you still have warm air coming out year round. Though not near as much compared to when the heater control valve is open. So no, cool air can't/won't bypass the heater core. At least not on mine it doesn't. If it wasn't for having the front hood cowl, for fresh air, it would be pretty uncomfortable in the summertime.
