My question is regarding the door jambs in the cab of a 1953 half ton pickup. Were they originally painted the interior color, or the exterior color?

My '54 jambs are interior color (original paint was still there in spots).

Added info to JoeDude's reply: the exterior color ends at the edges of the exterior sheet metal.

As Tim mentioned, The color split on the doors is under the weatherstrip and on the cab itself, the split is where the outer sheet metal wraps around and meets the inner sheet metal.

I have seen pictures of a very original AD. from what I could gather, the interior was painted before the exterior, then the the door openings were masked prior to painting the exterior. The masking job was not perfect, in that a smidgen of the interior surface received exterior paint here and there.
It is rather painstaking to perfectly mask the edge of the folded over exterior sheet metal where it meets where the interior color is supposed to be.

I agree with what Carl said. The interior was painted before the exterior.
The seat frame skirts on my truck had orange overspray over the beige interior color. Just a few spots that were barely visible, but definitely orange.

The masking job around the doors doesn't need to be perfect though, as the weatherstrip covers the corner where the door skin folds over the door interior, and would cover a bit of masking the wasn't exactly on the edge of the door skin fold.
