Alright guys. I have a 1969 C60 and I have done tons of work to this truck. I do have it posted in the for sale section but I'm about 98% sure I'm going to keep it anyway. The steering is one thing that I haven't really touched on too much. I did replace the tie rod ends on my bar and have dialed down all of my slop to be coming from my steering box. I looked to make an adjustment to tighten it up a little but someone in it's lifetime put a pipe plug in the box! I'm looking to either tighten it up or just replace it all together. This is my last big thing to tackle mechanically. Is this gear box the same as a C10? I can't seem to find any numbers on it anywhere. I can snap pictures if it'll help.
We'll in digging looking for a picture in my phone I answered some of my own question. Seems I was looking in the wrong spot. The adjustment is not on the top but on the side. I'm still looking for information on this box though in case I do have to replace it. In my defense it's almost impossible to see with the truck put together, I took multiple pictures while the front clip was off and the motor was out.
Disconnect the tie rods from the Pitman arm. Find the "center point" by turning the steering wheel lock to lock, then back up halfway. As the wheel is turned through the center point, the turning torque on the steering wheel center nut should increase 10 inch-pounds, measured with a torque wrench. If the torque rises, then falls at the center point, and rises again the worm gear is worn out. Rebuild or replace the steering box if that happens. Adjust the sector gear preload by turning the adjuster in or out with the lock nut loosened, then lock it down when the preload is correct. Jerry

Pvmt You might check to see if toe-in is OK,that will make em kinda unruly. I jst use to yardsticks at spindle level on the inside of the tires. Shoot for 1/8 or 3/16 inch in on the front . meant two yardsticks. might be as much as 1/4 inch on c 60.
