I have screwed up on my 53 half ton. I remember, on my first cab, there was a rod that ran from side to side on the seat base for release of the seat slide on the passenger side. That cab was junk and I sold it. Unfortunately, my new better cab does not have that rod. I don't see it listed in any of the parts dealer catalogs. I assume that it's just a simple rod with 90 degree bends on both ends. Is there anything else that I need to know about this, in order to make one. Any info appreciated. Pics would be great.

Mike

I posted this in a parts wanted thread that's now long gone, so here it is again. I measured my rod including angles so someone could make a replacement.

Hope that helps.

What year is your replacement cab? One built before '51 will have a cable linked seat adjustment system.

Thanks for the drawing. My cab is a 53. That drawing will help if I have to make one. I can hardly believe that I didn't remove the one from my first cab. I thought that I'd stripped it out. It seems like it might be much easier to make one out of cable than it would to make it out of a rod. wouldn't be correct, but who's gonna see.

The cable linkage was pretty fiddly, which is probably why GM changed it.

I think you could rig a cable, as the rod is pulled to release the passenger side rail, but the rod is offset to clear the seat frame. A cable might rub on the seat frame.

So, did you end up making one from your drawing? How did it work out?

No, I have the original rod. I posted that drawing because another bolter was looking for one like you are.

2 or 3 years ago I posted instructions on rebuilding the sliding tracks of the seat. Those instructions won't be in tech tips, but probably in this section. The work isn't too difficult, but there are some tricks to reassembling. If you will disassemble, clean and restore those sliding tracks, your seat will work like it did when the truck was new...and when new the seat worked smoothly and with ease. When those tracks get rusty and dirty the seat almost won't work at all. Good luck!
