It has been a while since I have posted. I am building a 216 for may 40 Chevrolet 1.5 REA express truck. The crank is ground and I have had the rods converted to inserts. I have purchased the insert bearings. I have contacted Ross pistons for the domed pistons. They will make them for me. My question now is on the camshaft. I know this engine is not going to have much more horsepower than 85 horsepower in the truck. What are your thoughts on camshafts, two single carbs and duals? Honestly, I think the factory cam will be fine with a single carb and factory exhaust manifold. I do have the in line book for performance of a 216/235 but I was curious as to thoughts on this. In regards to camshafts, would folks recommend a stock grind or something ground from Howards? I hope Jerry (Hot Rod Lincoln) is doing well.

Thank you

I'm doing well enough to know better than to poke this hornet's nest on the open forum. I'll be glad to share my thoughts by PM or email.

Thank you Jerry. I think I pretty much think it’s best to leave it all alone and keep it like GM made it. Will PM.

I can make a "216" with 258 cubic inches and full pressure oiling that looks original from the outside. The checkbook will need some CPR, however!

Let’s see some pics of this engine or other engines you’ve built Jerry.

I dimly recall reading about a 261 rebuild/build/assembly being done by Jerry at Stovebolt gathering?
I wish I had been able to be there.

Phillip, do you just want to see a few Jerry-rebuilds, or, ????

You said you can make a 216 with 258 cubic inches, with full pressure oiling look like a 216 original. So you’ve done it before? But the wallet will need CPR? I was hoping to see this engine. The way you posted made it sound like you have done it before. If you don’t have pics or haven’t done before sorry I misunderstood.

I have one under assembly, assuming I don[t die from Covid first. I just spent a week in ICU with blood clots in my lungs. It uses a modified stroke 235 crankshaft and pistons, H beam rods for a Nissan 2.4 liter, a 250 oil pump, and several other major modifications. I've been doing major engine mods for over 60 years.

Be careful with your health, Jerry

Listen to your doctor/doctors - do what they tell you to do (and follow their instructions regarding what they tell you not to do).

Similar crankshaft modifications can take a 235 to 270 cubic inches and a 261 to over 300.

Early 216's with a specific cylinder head used domed pistons, and only on pre-1940 engines. 216's that came out originally with flat top pistons cannot use the earlier domed ones without getting piston/head interference.
