Are you aware that this trans swap will require the engine mounts to be changed to the side mount system and having a trans crossmember installed (or maybe you already have it that way)?
You have chosen what is the most difficult transmission to swap effectively of all the ones that will bolt up to the V8 engine. The geometry of the throttle cable linkage that controls shift points and pressures leaves absolutely no room for error. Getting the engine/trans assembly to bolt together isn't difficult at all. Getting the trans to shift properly and not destroy itself is extremely difficult. A turbo 400 or even a 350 would be a much better choice. Good luck! Jerry

I second this on the TV cable. They really are very finicky. I would recommend having a *good* shop set that up for you. One with a warranty.
I have heard good things about BTO's kits (pick the one for your carb), but I ended up deciding to put an 4L60e in my project(s) instead.
Have you thought about a T-10 or a close ratio 3 speed. I won a bunch of of drag races with both types of Borg Warner's. Had a few aluminum case 4 speeds but, I'm a little set in my ways. I prefer cast iron, hey it's weight down low on my 57-150 and it helps the front from bouncing up a little too much. Pending which rear end I'm running I get very good performance on the close ratio 3 speed. Either one will fit right in nicely with no modifications. Listen to Jerry he is a pro. No brag, just fact. doc

While we are on the subject; What is the big deal about Tremmic (spelling), 5 speed? My 57-150 has the close ratio and I can get a Tremmic for cheep from a kid that has to get some money now. Looks new. doc

Have you considered using a 350-C transmission, the one with a lockup clutch in the torque converter? It gives a 10% increase in driveshaft speed when the TCC locks in after going through the normal 3 speed shift pattern with 3rd. gear being direct drive. Getting 10% more driveline speed (or 10% less RPM) without going through an extra set of planetary gears is probably better efficiency-wise than having an OD. Jerry

What sort of advantage do you expect to get with an overdrive, compared to the setup you're running now? What is the optimum torque band of the engine you're running? Until you can answer sone basic questions about the results you expect to get from a modification, you need to do some more research about how to achieve the goals you have in mind. Jerry

I hope better gas mileage. Lotsa hills around here and people get too close behind me. The manual is tough to deal with. Not me too much. But in general. The manual needs attention so instead of that , I thought replace.
That pedal on the right side of the floorboard should be able to take care of the traffic jam behind you. Far too many people who drive stovebolts are deathly afraid of running the engine in the RPM range where it's designed to make the power to handle hills. An OD transmission is exactly the wrong choice for hill climbing- - - -a lugged-down engine can't make the cut, and an automatic is going to downshift to direct drive as soon as it encounters more than a slight upgrade. Thanks all! I`ll have to reevaluate the transmission selection. In the meantime ,I`d like to see about using the Warner automatic transmission manual overdrive. I have never encounter anything like this before and this is how it acts without power to it. Cable out on dash , truck off , 1 2 3 R truck will not roll in those gears. Cable in....1 2 3 ..roll forward but not back. Reverse ...the truck will not roll forward or back. Performance wise ./ Cable out 1 2 3 feel unrelaxed/tight. Kinda jerky. Cable in ...all feels fairly normal. Again no power to the Warner.
When I have power to the unit , how will the transmission behave?
1st thing, grab that Tremec. good investment. As to the overdrive trans. I believe it should operate as a normal 3 speed with no power to the solenoid, no matter if the 3rd shifter (lockout) is in or out. I'm pretty sure the lockout only affects operation of the solenoid to engage the planetary set. If I remember there is a sprague clutch that may prevent the output shaft from reversing. It's been a long time so go easy on me if I'm not 100% correct.
