so, last few years i have been trying to get our family truck more dialed in, brake have been the biggest issue, and the lack of fluid that always seems to be in the MC. so i replaced the MC, it was the OEM one and have had 0 leaks. but still losing fluid somehow, had the truck in a reputable shop and they also couldnt find any leaks. they did reset the adjusters and put new hardware on the back but couldnt find the hardware and adjusters they need for the front..... they said their best guess is fluid was back purging out of the MC...

1 ton front brakes... are they the same as the 3600's??? i cant find anything for hardware for a 3800 but i can find 3600? thanks! when i get the chance ill post the story on the truck

On the 3600 the shoes are narrower and the wheel cylinders aren't interchangeable with the 3800. I've tried, they are a smaller diameter so the adjusters wouldn't fit. However the springs and such may be. It wouldn't be a huge investment to order it up and try. I got wheel cylinders from Jim Carter on the condition that I could return them if they didn't fit. They didn't and I returned them no sweat. Last I looked he had 1-ton wheel cylinders in his catalog.

As for the fluid leakage it has to be going somewhere. If you have a hydrovac it could be getting sucked into the engine otherwise it's going on the ground or into a brake drum somewhere. Hydrovacs were an RPO on 1-tons. The fluid also could be displacing air that didn't get purged from the system when you bled the brakes.

yeah ive been looking at jim carter and LMC, so far LMC seems the best option. it has no hydrovac, ive ripped the MC all apart so id know haha. but thats essentially what the shop said is they were guessing the system was purging air back and forcing it out the lid. just a PIA ordering parts to canada and trying to return them if something is off.

It must have Huck brakes then if it has the 51 chassis. They are hard to find parts for. Like the guys say, if it is losing fluid it has to be going somewhere. If the brake shoes are not adjusted properly you will have a lot of back purge. There are 2 adjustments on each wheel. They are all right hand threads so each side adjusts in the oppisite direction.

The pic of the backing plate shows two adjuster slots at the top- - - - -definitely Huck brakes. Each shoe must be adjusted individually. Inspect all the wheel cylinders for rust pits that might be allowing seep leaks of fluid. If complete wheel cylinders aren't available, just purchase the right diameter rubber cups ands rebuild the cylinders yourself. A ring of rust pits in line with the fluid hole in the wheel cylinder isn't a disaster- - - -the cups never move back that far during normal operation. A good machinist can install a stainless steel sleeve in a wheel cylinder that will never rust, and that cylinder will last three days past forever.

Hey Chris - I just got one of those disk kits delivered from TSM. Sounds like it's working well for you? I have not gotten around to installing mine yet. What did you do for brake plumbing? I assume you have a prop valve and needed to re-plumb some lines?
