Stovebolters, Fellow I met at my hardware store was cleaning out his garage and gave me a distributer. He said it would work in either 216 or 235 motors. Does the vacuum Advance line get hooked up to the trico wiper motor? V/r, Nick

No.

The path is from diaphragm connection on the side of the distributor to a small metal tube that travels up to the carburetor fitting (port above the throttle plate). Do you need a picture? The distributor may be pre 1954. The part number on the breaker plate can be used to determine application.

There are a few differences in the 216 and 235 distributors, mainly in the centrifugal advance numbers, and also the height of the caps and rotors used on early and late model distributors. When the electrical systems went to 12 volts, a taller cap and rotor and a slightly different height center shaft was installed to minimize the tendency for the high voltage to flash over to the breaker plate if a plug wire came loose. As long as the cap, rotor, and distributor match up, the complete assembly can be installed and will work in either engine. There's also a difference in the drive gear that is used with steel or cast iron camshafts.

I've got a little bit of reference material on some of those distributors by the part number on the breaker plate. Another difference I forgot to mention was a change in point gap and possibly the cam lobe profile in the mid 1950's which changed the "dwell" setting.
