The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Carb Question

In 1962 there were two 235 engine options. The first one is a high torque 235, and the second one is a high torque 235 w/ maximum economy option carburator.

I've got a Rochester 1 barrel on my 235, with the fuel line facing towards the valve cover. But in the '62 shop manual, it says I should have a BC, or Carter downdraft carb.
All of the other 1962 chevy trucks i've seen with 235's had the carters. :confused:
Can anyone shed some light on this?

"Fuel and exhaust components remain essentially the same as in 1961 except hand throttle controls and the exhaust system for the new 409 cubic inch Workmaster engine.
Hand throttle controls have been eliminated on 1962 trucks and will be an optional accessory. The 409 cubic inch engine (RPO 421) is equipped with a dual exhaust system."

Actually, the "BC" you describe is the Rochester B model one barrel carb and if you review your book, you'll see reference to the Carter UPDRAFT carb-not down draft.

Yep, "BC" stands for Rochester "B" with integrated choke thermostat. BV is Rochester B with divorce mounted choke thermostat, and plain old B is with manual choke. I run a BC on my 261, works fine.
