Hope ok to ask here about books. I was wondering if the "Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual 1954 Models" would be the same book for the 1954 GMC 152 Truck? Mainly need something as a reference point in working on my truck/engine.

Unless someone has some pointers to where to go, etc.

The current engine in the truck is a 235. I do have the original 248 engine I'd like to put back in the truck if the block/head is any good, etc...

RP14, no help on the book question just wanted to say Hello. I spent 2011 thru part of 2014 in ND. Watford City was my home away from home. Lots of memories and good times made there and in the area. Spent a lot of time in the Little Missouri Badlands all the way down to Killdeer. Sadly I was a regular at Outlaws smile Hope all's well in my adopted home town. Things should be coming back to life with well completions picking up (according to what I read).

Try pulling up the web site "Better World Books". I have been a member for years it has a huge amount of books. We are a non-profit and it cost nothing to join. Doc.

Always learn from others. Just a ton of books out there and rather spend the money on parts than books. Want to find the books that would be most helpful and of course these forums.

Fixite7, Glad to hear from others whom are from ND. I am just going to use the truck for summer short drives, getting ready to tear down to the frame and restore.

Moparguy, As for Watford City, it's grown quite a bit and a huge change from when you were last here. It's my permanent home, love it here.

Just looking for maybe a couple books to help guide and/or parts, etc. Saw a site classicparts.com they have several books. I have a GMC 152-24 truck and wasn't sure if the assembly/parts were the same as they have different looks.
I also want to find a wiring diagram for the GMC, I'm only able to find Chevy wiring diagrams which is different. Going to replace the entire wiring harness and electrical. Might keep it 6 volts unless someone says better to change to 12 volt. I'd like to keep as original as possible.

Open to any suggestions and will be taking notes, etc.

RP 14 The simplicity of an alternator is what I go for, same with HEI ,same with propane equipment! All are easy to trouble-shoot ! Carry a few parts with you on the road, some tools,go for it. I want to cruise not trouble shoot antique's and fight vapor lock !!
