Everyone has a story about the truck they sold years ago, didn't buy, etc. Here are mine. My dad had a 1954 COE Chevy grain truck back the late 1960's and early 1970's (I was a little kid). It sat for a few years in the cattle shed when he quit using it. Sometime in the early 80's it finally disappeared. I am not sure where it went-I just know it went. It got parked because he bought a 1959 Chevy Viking 50 grain truck. I think you all refer to this type as a low cab-over. I remember this one a little better. It had a 283 V-8 and sure sounded good with glass packs and no tail pipes. It got sold in 1981 and replaced with a 1973 C65 which we still have. The bed and hoist from the 1959 went on the 1973. We also now have a 1966 C60 tandem that is in the gallery photos.

These are my stories. How about yours?

Actually the one that got away from me was a 1955 Nomad six cylinder with overdrive.(need I say rare?) Little old lady in Oakland, it had fifty eight thousand on it with no damage at all. I was beat out on this one by about six minutes! It went for less than $1500.00 in 1985. Trust me that was a great deal, even if I just parked it as is, today it would be worth over $35k.

I lost out on another 1951 Suburban, complete with all three seats, radio and other options. This one was a beauty, I lost the address and couldn't find it again!

When you have been collecting for over thirty years, there's lot's of "I missed" deals..........

I had a pristine 56-57 Nomad station wagon get away. My mom called while I was in college (1977) and say a neighboring rancher was cleaning up and getting rid his old cars. I had seen the car in the barn for years but it was going to be "restored" some day. I told her to tell him put a "sold" sticker on it and would be home that weekend to retrieve. BY the time I got their he had sold it to a ranch and for $50. He put a battery and some gas in it a nd drove it home. Only good news is he drove it for a few years and then gave it to a son who restored it.

Hello
My biggest mistake was not buying the 55 2nd series GMC short step with napco 4wd conversion and original pontiac V8 that I found in 1990 for $900.00. It was almost rust free unheard of in WV(they salt the roads when it rains here)Oh well I probably would have lost it in my divorce 1 year later....Mike

The truck I wish I'd kept was my 1955 Cameo. It had a 283 w/PowerPac heads, 3-speed manual, heater, and that's it. I bought it in 1985 off an AF buddy who was separating...for $200.00. Yes, $200.00!!! Did some front suspension work and a few little things to make it a dependable driver. Made a good deal in a trade when it came time to part with it, but that was a neat old beater Cameo.

This past fall, our local ATHS chapter had a sealed bid auction for a '63 B-61 Mack tandem axle tractor in very good original condition (it was road ready and I even drove it). I submitted my bid (I've ALWAYS wanted a B-61 and I will have one some day even if I have to ... sell all the Stovebolts...)

Yep, I missed it ... BY FOUR BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was SOOOOOOOO ticked!!

I have found a 1988 Masarati .. It looks like a Chrysler Le Baron, but has Masarati emblems and a Masarati engine. I can't find anything about it on the net. Anyone ever heard of one?

88 Maserati/Chrysler - DeTomaso owned Maserati for a while and did a joint venture deal with Iacocca to build those (called the TC). About 7,500 were built. The V6 was a Mitsubishi engine. The 4 cyl engine was more powerful than the 6.
Should be able to find more info on the 'net.

It just wasn't meant to happen then Grand Pooh Bah.

Two trucks that got away... a good pal of mine, his mom had a '63 chevy lwb fleetside c10- white paint with the chrome trim custom cab stuff with red interior - inline 6, 3 on the tree.

he said they were selling it - but back then he used to make jokes that they were selling everything... plus I wanted a stepside for some reason... but, if I had really known it was for sale, I woulda bought it. Neat old truck.

-

other one was a '41 chevy 1.5 ton - no bed - I saw in the truck trader in high school - didn't go look at it - figured I never find parts - thsi was '91-'92ish... pre- internet for me and no diea about all these vendors sellign stuff mail order.

Woog,

Yeah, I guess you're right (as he looks down and kicks a rock). But did Peggy tell you to say that?

That's okay, I'm still going to have a big truck -- a friend of mine will be selling me his Autocar in a few years ....

****My biggest mistake was not buying the 55 2nd series GMC short step with napco 4wd conversion and original pontiac V8 that I found in 1990 for $900.00.****

Mine's real similar. A 54 Chevy 3600, 5 window deluxe cab,long bed with the Napco 4x4 setup.
It was at a salvage yard in Big Stone City, SD. Rust Free, Front row, A runner. Just needed some bed wood.
In 1982 I was 17. What did I know about Napco? It looked cool though but $1500 seemed too much for a 28 year old truck. So I settled for a 77 K-10 Scottsdale.
It took another 21 years but Among my projects is now a 53 3800 that will get a Napco drivetrain off a 55 First series 3800 rust bomb. The Drivetrain is squared away though and will fit nicely under the Truck in Black.

1950 Chevy 3600 - 98% original, except the motor. (the 216's are bad). All original paint, interior. Great truck. Then a guy beat me up there and paid them cash on the spot. $2000.00

Oh well, you'll always find something better, that's the way I see it

Dad had both 1st and 2nd series 1955 Chevy pickups for his hired hands to drive in the 70s. Sure wish we'd kept them.

There was a 55 Nomad station wagon in my hometown. It had no wheels and was sitting in the dirt, but was 90% complete. Local guy had it and about 10 other junkers sitting around his place. Of course he wouldn't even consider selling it to a snot-nosed high-school kid.

Then the town had a clean-up campaign, crushing all those "unwanted" junk cars.

Yep, you guessed it. By the time I got out of school at 3:30 and drove over there, it was only 10" tall. I hope he was happy with the 5 bucks he got for the scrap.

In the early '70s I was laid off from the factory and on un-employment. I did some welding for a guy with a wrecking yard. He had several 2-ton ADs. He offered to let me pick the best cab he had and put it on one with a lift bed. He said I could make a good living cleaning up construction sites and hauling off the debris, selling stuff for salvage.
I turned him down. Who knows, I could have turned it into a mega business and be rich today. But no, I went back to the factory and now I'm retired with this meager pension.
