Just recently got mine re-attached with a new cable and had forgotten how much I missed it.

Man, that thing is handy. I wish all vehicles (including modern) were equipped with one.

They come in handy for holding the idle a bit high on cold start since the choke is manual without a fast idle.

Example:

We recently got my son a little Nissan truck for his first vehicle and I’m chasing an EGR code that is a bit of a bugger. There are a few tests I need to run at an elevated RPM. So I either have to go find a helper, or figure out how to clamp the throttle with pliers or what not in a certain position.

With the stovebolt style hand throttle, this would be easy peasy.

What Carb set up do you have? Carter or Rochester?
I just got my new throttle cable but have not hooked it up yet.
I assume the cable goes through were I have a cotter pin now then a cable screw lock piece (not sure on correct name) ?

Yes, that''s usually how they connected.

Yes and there’s also a little bracket clamp that secures the outer cable sheath. I’m pretty sure you’d also need that to make it function right. Carter or Rochester would be setup the same in that regard unless it was a carb # designed for a different application with no hand throttle or auto choke.

Man I wish I didn't have to work on rigs with electronic control control of everything, including throttle.
I have 2 Pontiac cars w/ 3800 V6. 2005 has throttle cable, 2007 has drive by wire. The latter is a pain to keep even speed going down the road, have to use cruise as throttle input is way to sensitive.

I was out and about in city traffic with lots of red lights when the accelerator pump diaphragm sprung a leak on my yf2100 Carter carburetor. They run way to rich like that and stall out at idle.
No problem. I pulled the throttle lever out far enough to keep the engine revved up high enough to burn the excess fuel and it stayed running just fine at the red lights and I made it home just fine.

I put a new throttle cable on my 261 about a month ago and got it connected and adjusted right. Perfect for holding a high idle until the motor is warm, and sounds really good once warm and sitting at a stop light, push it all the way in for low idle.

I run a Zenith 228 carb, and the throttle/choke bracket off the Rochester B carb screws right on and works just fine.

There ya have it. The throttle knob is not just a convenience. It’s a safety feature.

It comes in handy at uphill stoplights too.

They also are handy when using a hoist or PTO, if so equipped.
