I would like to make my 6 volt brake lights a little brighter. Can anyone recommend a source for bright 6 volt #1129 single-filament LED bulbs? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You may not find a wealth of possibilities for the 1129 6v LED bulb. I've seen some 1156 6v LED bulbs on Amazon, but not many 1129 bulbs and those didn't boast high lumen output. Good luck. 1000Bulbs.com is normally a good source for LED auto bulbs.

Paint the inside of your housing gloss white and use a plastic lens. You'll be surprised at the difference. My 38 is still six volt and uses the same shape housing. You can also make your tail light brighter by using a #81 bulb instead of the #63. Since both bulbs are lit when the brakes are applied when the lights are on, the extra 3cp of the 81 will boost the brake light brightness as well.

Thanks Jon and Tiny. Jon, you are right, no sign of an 1129 LED anywhere, though 1000bulbs.com had an impressive selection. Tiny, I will try the trick with the #81 bulb, I think I have a few somewhere. Never thought of the white paint or the plastic lens, will try these if I can't come up with any 81s. Or maybe I will just step on the brake pedal a little harder

81s are available through most any jobber though they may have to order them. Even if you decide to use them, a plastic lens will let more light through. My 6v 38 is just as bright as my modern 12 pickup with the painted housing, plastic lens and 81 bulb.
