The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts BOMBER TUG crew cab????

i posed this question on the main discussion board but i'll post it here as well since it would be a heavy duty truck.

a friend works with a guy who supposedly has an old "Bomber Tug" Chevy. if i remember right it is a 1952 vintage (or that body style at least). niether of us have seen it yet but hope to go see it tommarow. it was said to have been used strictly for pulling airplanes around the air strip, possibly military planes. it is also supposedly a crew cab (4 door). anyone ever seen such and animal? got any pics or info on them?? i'm REAL curious and i've spent the last couple nights searching the net for any info or pics with no luck what so ever. i scanned through all the stovebolt galleries for anything and came up empty there aswell. is the guy mistaken? pulling our legs? or is it just a real rare bird???

if indeed we make it out to see it tommarow i will take pics and share them with the group.

Kustombuilder, what you may have is some kind of military truck, maybe modified.

There were shops that did customized crew bodies back then.

When you finally get to see the truck, be sure to take lotsa pictures. There is a whole contingent here that just slobbers all over Chevys done up as military trucks.

By the way, Kustom, by your number you must be fairly new to the Stovebolt group.

You'll find out, once you get into fiddlin' with an old stovebolt, that you will quickly become an "expert" at some part of what makes 'em go (or not go, as the case may be.)

in the vehicle dump at lakenheath england was a crew cab c.o.e. (probably 52-53), a federal "push me pull you" , which looked the same either way it was coming at you, and an old international cabover that had windows under the windshields. then federal (or fwd) had a big overstuffed leather seat that faced either way. there was a bottom of the seat that faced front, and another one that faced rear, with one common back that was upolstered on both sides. i slept like a baby on that thing whenever i felt the urge to hide out. never was in the cabover, but i remember it. lot's of freaky stuff in the military of yesterday.
