Local FB ad has some 8-bolt 17.5 single wheel rims (one piece) for sale from a 58 Chevy truck. Haven't gone to look at them yet, but wanted some thoughts on if these would work well on my 59 1-ton pickup?

The truck originally came to me with 17 inch split rims, and I'm currently running 9.5R-16.5 tires on it in order to clear the rear drums and provide the steering component clearance in the front. The seller is asking $200 for the set of four 17.5 rims (would probably offer less anyway), and since I'm not in dire need of something I haven't rushed over to look at them. The 17.5 rims have hub cap clips, so they would allow me to use the original caps that came with the truck. I can bring a spare rear drum along from my truck to test that fit, but if someone knows they won't work I won't waste my time.

Provided that these 17.5 rims would work on a 1-ton, what tire sizes are an option for those rims and would it give me much more height than the current 16.5s? Thanks.

I expect they will work/fit just fine.
I don't have any recent experience with 17.5 tires for them but expect they are out there. Probably something skinny, measure the rim width at the bead seat and compare to recommended rim width for various tire sizes.

Thoughts on the price? I know the single wheel 19.5 rims are hard to find, but what about 17.5?

The 17.5 rims will work just fine. My '58 3800 had them on when I got it.

$200 doesn't sound bad, but see if the seller can go lower

Price is probably fair if you need them, otherwise I prefer to pay $25 for a used steel wheel, and usually can. Sometimes after driving to fetch (or ship) wheels then removing and properly disposing of the old dead tire it might be closer to $50 invested, I'm generally OK with that if it's a wheel I want/need.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on the 17.5 rims...been trying to find out what types of tires are even available in 17.5 size these days. Anyone have recent experience getting some 17.5 tires?

There are some new 17.5 tires on ebay. I have a few saved on my watchlist if I happen to go with 17.5s on my truck

That is a good price one the rims. I usually sell them to 47-54 Chevy GMC Guys that want to get away from the splits . The big deal is if they are original they will have the hubcap clips to accept the hubcap . Sought after rim once you understand the applications . Tires are available .
