Been doing some reading on the new big bolt I got and the more I read the more I think I should have gotten one years ago. Johns feature about the Big Trucks should be required reading. Wow!! 8:10 and 6:10 rear gears wild!
Anyway I was making my list of stuff I'd need for the new 6400 and ran across this info notice the Two Speed Axle Instruction Decal and then I found the decal and was wondering if any of the vendors out there are repopping it?
If not I was thinking if any of you guys had it on your trucks and I could get a good picture of it maybe I could make one up myself.
Anyway it will be a while before the trucks to the point I'll need it but thought I'd see what you guys thought.

I've never seen one of those. There is no trace of it on the dash of my dad's unrestored (for now) '51 350.

If you find a source, or decide to have some made, let me know - I might be interested for the 350.

I've been looking for those decals for years. Thought I would have ran across one on ebay by now, but no such luck. I've seen them on the dash, & on the interior sunvisor.

Spanky, if I can get a good high rez picture of one and measurments of what size it actually is. I could recreate it and then we could all print our own. I've made decals before with decal paper from www.decalpaper.com and they turn out pretty good if you use a laser printer.
I could do it from the link I posted above but It would be better to have something higher resolution.

Thanks for posting the picture of the decal.
Lets some of us novices better appreciate what we're trying to get ourselves into!

The one on my '49 is too far gone to reproduce, especially on the left side showing the shift points. The pic shows where the factory put mine and maybe you can find other details. It measures 5 1/4" wide by 2 3/4" high, but the edges are a bit hard to tell for sure.

Ok, had a few minutes this afternoon and started working on remaking the decal. Tell me what you guys think, I built this working off the measurments Joe posted and the picture from the manual I posted earlier.

KC, I believe your're right, about the decal changing, throughout the years. The '54 Chevy COE, I just sold, still had the decal on the dash, & it had white lettering, & outlines, with a clear background(background was beige dash color). I've got a '53 Chevy 6400 parts truck, & to the best of my memory, it has a black decal,with white lettering, & the shifter lever looks like it does on the truck, not the earlier '47, & '48 style, like on the color decal.

My truck has been sitting in a barn since 1951 so no sun fade on the decal.

I think I like the color version best, even if it ay not be perfectly accurate for all years. It adds something to the dash.

hello i would like to recommend that you get a gm restoration pak it has listings for venders for gm parts and info on your year truck

KCMONGO, Thanks for the decal in black and white. I'm gong to blow it up for a picture in my garage! I need the two speed selector. does any one out there have a selector handle and the face plate. I think I have the vacuum switch itself but the PO welded a 3/8 box end wrench on the end of a rod for a selector. I have yet to install the 2 speed rear end. I'm waiting until I remove the bed. I think that will make the exchange easier. REDCOAT

I forgot to add that my selector switch is under the dash betweenthe ignition switch and the steering wheel. REDCOAT

As a follow up question: Did anyone successfully find a way to make this decal? Can it be purchased anywhere that we know of? There was one on the dash of the fire truck before it was painted over many years ago. I'd like to put one on again if I can find one.

Our old grain truck has that decal on the back of the visor. I'd take some also if someone was making them. There was another one there too, about how to engage the PTO.

What does that PTO decal look like?

The one i remember was a simple picture that showed to double ended arrows , one pushed foward to engage the pto. The other pulled back to raise the hoist. Had print like up and down and in and out on each arrow. It was just a black and white decal about 2" sq. Had a warning about not driving down the road with the pto engaged. I'd have to draw it out to explain it better. Wasn't fancy like the 2 speed one, and might not have even been factory, it was just on the back of the visor beside the other one.

Is anyone still making these decals or are most folks just ignoring the decal and going without it?

Not a real good one, but here is the decal in my truck, & its on the roof!

I could not get ANY of the other links in this tread for pics of decals to work.

It looks like that one except mine was in color and on the dash. It was painted over by a prior fire department repaint job.
