The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Making a Stovebolt Bed Steel Bed Strips

1950 Chevy 9' truck bed 3800 series. From underneath the bed, there is a square nut, cut washer, and a fender washer for each carriage bolt holding down the bed strips. Does anyone know offhand the outside diameter of the fender washers. I'm ordering hardware for these and would like to make sure it's the correct size as the originals (which are long gone by the way).

You can buy complete hardware kits for the bed strips from Mar-K and other vendors. I would be surprised if the fender washers are different than what you can get at the hardware store though.

Here ya go. The rusty washer is one I just took off my original bed last week. The washer above is the exact replacement. If they were bigger I think they would actually be better but hey they worked forever back in the day so they must be good enough.

Yup, FWIW I used hardware store fender washers and carriage bolts for mine. If there was difference between those and what appeared to be the original (rusted away) hardware, I couldn't have found those differences. They had a couple different sized fender washers and one size matched what I took off.

Thanks guys, looks like 1" was the size for these. I was thinking 1" or maybe 1-1/4", been a long time since any of my originals were around. I looked at Mar-K bed assembly guide on line, and they are calling out 1-1/2", so I guess I'm not sure what to actually use. I would think 1-1/4" would work well, but the picture from Barnfinder49 shows they were 1". I will decide on something soon and get everything ordered.

Go bigger. Mine were starting to deform and want to crack the boards at the edge. The bigger the better but the ones I used were stock size.
