Hey all, I picked up a 1951 GMC 250 dumptruck and am going to start digging into the brakes as they currently do not work, pretty sure the brake pedal is seized to start with because when I push on the brake pedal it doesn't budge but the truck still rolls. On a side note the dump cylinder and all of the hydraulic bits seem to be there so that's a good thing. It does have a hydrovac unit on it that seems a bit qiestionable. thanks to a few bolters We were able to find out it has a 1962 261 in it with the 12v electrical. Would any of you folks happen to know what ton this beast would be? amy suggestions on where to get parts and how to fugure out what I have would be great. thank you!
As Mike said, it is indeed a 250 series 1 ton. I, not too long ago sold a nice 1950 GMC 1 ton pickup, that also had a Chevy 261 engine in it. Nice truck you have there.

I'm guessing that because it is a 1-ton, it *probably* has the HO72 rear axle -- which is good -- it gives you a few options for gearing and brakes. Please check in the Driveline forum or the Tech Tip about upgrading 1-ton brakes for more info on that.
Did I mention that you have a neat truck there?
