For the first my engine wouldn’t take the gas well & would cut off easily. I was able to drive & it ran better the longer I drove.
I decided to change the plugs wires & distributor cap.
Good thing. None of the plugs were torqued, one I turned with the plug cap!
Inside the rotor cap & rotor was worn.
I’ve been using an electronic fuel pump due to problems.
This engine was put in long before I bought it 12 or 13 years ago. Man time flys by!
I’ve been told it came from an early 70’s Camaro. The auto parts store thinks it came from a 76 model. Strait six.
From my readings I can verify that the 2 covers on the right side of the block are long. The oil dip stick is in the rear ahead of the oil pressure point. The engine mount is behind the fuel pump.
There are some # s on the right lower block but I don’t know what they mean.
002N0 084145 I think.
I know most of the parts I need are interchangeable but I’d like to know for myself.
Thanks!

There should be a code stamped into the block by the distributor.

This tells you how to decode: https://nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php#suffix

Only # are 82F. 1182 or 1162.
I’ve determined that it must be a 250. The lifter covers are 4 inch. The engine mounts appear to be at the same level.

Got the correct fuel pump coming in tomorrow!

The fuel pump came in as original for the 53 model. New plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor! 3/4 ton with a low speed transmission. She has a pretty loud exhaust leak at the spider so at 45 mph I never wanted to drive faster.
Now she wants to go 50 or 55, I have to hold her back!
I’m very pleased with her.
I’ll have to look closer for #’s behind the distributor, I didn’t see any.
