We're the dump beds on the old trucks a dealer installed option or aftermarket? I've seen 4 11/2-2 ton chevy trucks and all the dump mechanisms were different. A old timer at a local truck shop told me my dump mechanism was built by Superior industries, they went out of business years ago and it's impossible to get parts for. If searched the internet and can't find any info on the company. Has anyone heard of this company. On my 6400 the hydrolic pump Is part of a manifold that has two humps that go all the way back to the ram. The pump and manifold are one unit and can't be separated.

Dump beds and other add on equipment were ordered by the Dealerships. They received Equpment books each year showing what equipment was available for that year. After wanted equipment for the new chassis was selected, the Dealer would then send the new cab, and chassi truck to a outside outfitter for the equipment to be installed.

As always, Spanky's advice is excellent.

I have a lot of the Silver Books for Advance-Design Trucks (and, Stovebolt engines) years.

What year is your truck, Chevy's till I d?

I'll take a few photos and post them here.

Tim, If you have several more of the Silver Books, maybe one of yours will have the Superior Company he speaks of. Mine did not. I'm going to send you a pm. Maybe not ? You're over the limit, and need to delete a few old messages.

In high school I worked at the Chevy Dealership and many times I had to drive the truck/chassis from Gaffney to Rock Hill, about 50 miles to get the bed, or box, installed and then go back to pick it up for the customer. I loved it. To me it was "easy money".

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

I appreciate those photos of the brochures. I do not know what the make of our dump equipment is. In looking at the Galion display, It is probably not that. Our truck has 2 rams. The original bed is gone. There is just a few plates that are left, from the bed, but the lift and "C" channel are left. Our new bed matches perfectly with these frame channels, so it would just sit on top. I still have not verified that it actually works yet. I will have to wait a while for that as the truck is getting closer to "exploded view" as we move forward with the restoration.

Perfection and Anthony used a lot of double cylinders on there beds.
These were lay down type I'm referring to.
I I'm assuming you meant lay down and not telescopic?

There was a Superior Company that made school bus bodies. Don't know if they also made dump box equipment or if that was a different company.

We had a 1928 Chevy with a Wood dump bed; later ones had Garwood dump beds. The Garwood beds were used for a number of years so maybe you could do a search and see if one matches yours.

My truck is a 1955 chevy first series 6400. I posted another thread on the big bolts forum about the lift with pictures. It's titled ram and pump identification. Looking at those brochures the galion looks similar to my setup

I did some research and discovered that a company called Perfection truck parts and equipment went into business around 70 years ago. At some point they became Perfection-Galion after a few more name changes they are still in business as Perfection truck parts and equipment. I'm going to call tomorrow and hopefully get some information. On another topic, how can I safely raise my bed? I don't have a forklift or backhoe so I'm going to try to jack it up and block it as I go. Any ideas on the best way to do this? I don't want to die trying this so if I can't do it safely please chime in.
