A machinist friend will be shortening the water pump shaft for me. Can anyone tell me where I can locate the correct short pulley? I have tried calling and emailing Jim Carters but cannot seem to get thru. They provide it with the water pump but they do not appear to sell them separately. Classicchevy.com has one but they are unable to tell me the groove width. The groove on the HB pulley is 5/8. Thanks!

Fan belt top width is 1/2", however.

Did you buy the water pump with the shortened shaft for the 235 swap? | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Jon, . . . Did you buy the water pump with the shortened shaft for the 235 swap? Or, did you use the water pump relocator plate? | | | | Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 | Jon,
Can you tell me where you purchased the water pump?

It was necessary to re-drill the fan mounting holes to the proper bolt circle, but the pulley hub has plenty of room to do that. Jerry

That sounds like an interesting idea!.

The belt will slip and squeal every time the A/C compressor clutch engages with the limited contact on the drive pulley. Pulling the belt through the gap between the crank and the water pump and adding an idler will give all the pulleys at least 180 degrees of belt contact. Jerry

Found a sheave (pulley) at the swap meet 3724816 that is 7 1/8 inch that I think is close 2 inches deep, Have been watching for a sheave too. The trouble is may be too big in diameter ! maybe our number crunchers will tell what that part no. fits Also have another GM looking sheave that is smaller but no no. Have found that you push your hub back and stop just before it rubs on the pump body is close (thats with the 2 inch deep sheave I think ,been a while) I hate to spend 140$ just to get a sheave when I have a pile of those pumps. | | | | Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 | coilover, These will help immensely! Very much appreciated. Patrick | | | | Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 44 | fixite7 Thank you! I apologize for the late response. For the moment I am using a electric fan until I can acquire all the right parts. I appreciate the model# I'll keep an eye out.

The conversion pumps keep going up in price or are no longer available. Would like to see what the process involves. | | |
