The two pins that engage the shift lever and hold the metel retainer cup in the top of my transmission are considerably worn. Has anyone tried to replace these? They look like they were inserted and then peened like a rivet. Any ideas on replacing them? The pins still hold the metel cup on but if one breaks it will fall into the tranny and cause damage

You can buy new ones ,They maybe loose after install because the wear happens to the collar more than the pin.(egg holes)
You can watch some videos on U2 . I do believe you can find fulcrum pins at transmission dealers still ,and they come up on eBay a lot

There's a quick, permanent fix that also takes care of the egg-shaped holes in the shift tower. Tap the holes in the shift tower for a 5/16" bolt and screw short bolts into the holes with the threads ground off where the shifter pivots. Use a drop of Loctite to make sure the bolts don't back out. If they ever wear again, just replace the bolts.

Good information guys. Thank you shop shark for pulling up the thread on these pins. Not sure which method I'll use but I'm not going to try to peen the replacement pins, hammering next to the cast iron tower could be a disaster.

Chevys till I die when those wore out the first time we learned to make new ones and carefully weld them from the outside of the neck. that was with mild steel welding rod,now that we have 7018 low hydrogen, its tougher, that is the best, My teacher on that(who just passed at about 90) was an ace on fixing those when the truck needed to be in the field that is how I learned !! hope that helps you.

Ni-rod and peen prior to and as the weld is cooling peen. If ambient temp is low I use a torch to cool it slowly while I peen
