I’m swapping out the axle on my 54’ using a Chevy ZR2 axle. Keeping the stock suspension and ride height. Also putting in a Chevy 350 engine and a 700R4. I’ve purchased the axle conversion kit to be able to do this. My question is what are people’s thoughts on attaching spring perch’s as far as can I basically swap out the perches on the new axle at the same “level as they are on the new axle” just correct the width or do I need to go thru and mock up with the engine and tranny in place to check pinion angles. I did read where a guy basically placed a level on one of the old perches and removed than installed the perch on the opposite end assuring the the perches were level. When he got the one side done he moved the level to the recently changed perch and replaced the other side verifying again that everything was level. Than installed the axle with the new perches in the truck. I was looking to see what you guys normally do. Thanks

I think it is best to have engine and trans. Installed, with a normal load in place, then both perches should be exactly even before welding.
