Anyone have a encryption for the Canadian paint codes ,I have read a few posts and found that the first number may be the year then the rest are the colour number but on my 54 truck it has letters then numbers? The truck when I got it was blue but under the blue looked to be a two tone blue light blue with dark blue fenders.the code says FC56.anyone else with a Canadian truck with similar code?thanks Kevin
Hi Kevin I was trying to compile a list of Canadian paint codes And trim options If you are fairly confident of the colour description of your paint code based on finding original paint I would like to add it to my list I spent a decent time online looking and I didn’t come up with any good data
what I collected so far, could all be wrong...
33 = Cape Maroon ( possibly like 666-M in USA ) (from 1950 1 Ton truck that i own) 32 = similar to Forester Green ( 661 in USA ) ?23 or maybe 37 = Airway Blue (close to Windsor Blue 664 in USA) 31 = looks like Omaha Orange 34 = could be Cream Medium 136 = Black (1951 3/4 Ton truck that i own) 339 = Cape Maroon (1953 1 Ton truck that i own, but could have been repaint?)
Yes certain it was blue and blue originally ,I chemically striped the truck years ago and that what was at the there before bare metal.I have a picture of the running board filler that was light blue and the fenders were a darker blue .the truck I beleave was similar to the one in the picture origionaly I beleave.
I have a book with colors for Canadian auto paints. Apparently they have a set of standard colors that they mixed together to create the colors you see on cars.

1940 Chevy 1/2 Ton presently... Almost done 1940 Chevy Business Coupe... In pieces
The 1953 3100 restomod that I had was paint code 341. In researching Canadian codes back in 2013, I found that the numbers provided to me then by tclederman were correct for 1954.
The first digit of "4" indicated the model year in that era and the next two digits were the colour. So, the 441 Coppertone was from 1954. The Coppertone of 1953 was designated as 341.
I'm not sure about other years, but for 1953 and 1954, that was the formula.
Since we are on the topic...my 1952 GMC 9430 has the paint code "SP2012" which I was told by the good folks at Vintage Vehicle Services in Oshawa ON, was possibly a special order paint (truck may have been part of fleet order for some business hence the SP designation). BTW, SP2012 appears to be a light sky blue color similar to "Cumberland Blue"....would appreciate any info if anyone has seen a similar paint code to help with my mystery.
That is what needs to be figured out the letters mine are FC56 and don’t match the first number being the year ,and the rest don’t match a code .now sp in 52 Blue could be special order 2012 ,the 2 matches being a 52 .will have to see if 012 is a colour .
these numbers are starting to make some sense Was the fire wall in engine bay side usually the same maroon colour for 50-51 Because most of mine are that even with the different paint codes Did they maybe first all get the same coat and then final paint on outside only I wonder. I’m pretty sure my black 51 is original but black isn’t listed as an option it’s 136 code which is a dark maroon It would be awesome if someone had a Canada paint book for late 40s -early 50s -s
The person that has been collecting the data - how much data/years do you have or is this just a new project? Have you got a spreadsheet?
I have some random Canadian paint data (none of it is in one place) and it seems very year specific and numbers can even be used over again. Even the colour "names" can be different shades depending on the year - an obvious one is "Oshawa Blue" as the name has been used for a few shades of blue depending on the year. I've attached some Canadian 1941 codes that were sitting in front om on the coffee table. In this case the "1" could indeed indicate the year as being suggested.
I'd like to see this paint data slowly collected somewhere since it so different from the US colours and GM Canada Vintage Services no longer has this data due to the fire in the 80's.
I have pretty decent general data on Canadian models and engine numbers that was compiled by the late David Hayward. I've tried to circulate this over the years so might be common knowledge at this point.
Well well 136 is black after all That makes sense because my black 1951 3/4 ton is black inside and out My grandpa bought it a few years old used so it very likely had never been repainted because he would not have paid 1¢ to do that sort of unnecessary work to a beat up farm truck
So that’s 1 colour/year confirmed Thanks canadiantim!
