I have a 1951 3100 short bed with a sm420. It has a 1955 10 bolt chevy truck rear axle with a 3:90 gearing. I was wondering if a 1957 10 bolt , 6 x 5.5” truck axle ( with a 3:55) would work for a bolt-in swap. Ideas on pros and cons?

I’m looking at a 1957 chevy truck rear axle that the guy says has 3:55 gears. Seems questionable. Weren’t 3:55’s only found in cars? His pics show 6 lug however.

think 3.90 was the highest ratio offered.
Got any pictures?

Spicer 44’s were used in some trucks, mainly GMC, and I think they came with 3.55 option.

The guy called me back. Yes his 57 rear end has 3:90 gears, same as my 55 rear end. Oh well the search goes on.
