How do you remove the outer bearing race? I have read in the shop manual that you need to remove a snap ring then drive the race from the outside of the hub to the inside. How do you get it out? Any tricks to this?
After you have tapped the race away from the snap ring, use an internal snap ring pliers with right angle tips that fit the holes in the ends of the snap ring.

Some snap rings don't have holes in them, they may have a tapered end that you hook a thin screwdriver under and pry them out or you may need to hook a 90* pick under it to get it started.

Not to highjack this thread. But does anyone know how the inner race of the inner bearing comes off the axle? Switching over to tapered roller bearings and i need to get them removed.

If you are talking about this in the picture, I just grabbed mine and pulled it off.
I never even tried that they looked almost pressed on so i was worried but ill try and just pull it off thanks!

If it's stuck tight with congealed grease, just warm the race up with a Propane torch and grab it with a welder's glove- - - -it will slip right off. Jerry
