The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop new style flat colors?

Hi all. I have a Frankenstein's Monster of a '51 GMC 100. The body is sitting on a 93 c1500 chasis and i'm putting a sbc30 out of a early camaro into it. I have a questions about the new "flat" style paints that have come out in the past few years. They're completely non-metallic, but have a clear coat. Like the new Challenger colors or the Abyss Gray that is on the new F-150. Does anyone know if Dupont makes a paint like that? My paint and body guy likes Dupont and I'm all left feet when it comes to paint.

Are you talking about actual flat finish or non-metallic paints? If flat, your guy can put a flattener additive in about any paint. But if you put clear coat on it, that would have to be a flat or matte finish also, or your flat base coat would turn shiny.
But I think you may be referring to solid color (non-metallic) paint that looks "creamy" (for lack of a better description). I've noticed that Subaru has been using them the past few years and have an orange that looks very similar to the Omaha Orange color that my truck was originally (and will be soon).
Talk with your paint guy. He'll know what you can do.

Omaha orange.....rustoleum has a color, fire orange, only in a spray can, I had a friend mix the color for me, prolly not exact but looks good, satin finish, I sprayed it on my 65, I like. Will get some pics up soon. Planing on pulling it out tommrow after work.
